Its all speculative at this point, but its not fantasy. The coalition is committed to HS2. So, it probably won't happen this time around. But if it does, Euston is likely to be kept as the Central London Gateway terminus for stratigic reasons. Its also possible that in the event of HS2 happening to end at Euston, then another speculative project (Chelney) has the potential to be nudged westward to call. Then throw in a possible Northern line split. Result presumably being Euston tube will receive a massive rebuild to cope. Is it possible that a JLE-esque solution will be adopted, and how logistically plausible is this? Can the station be hollowed out any further at any worthwhile cost, putting aside the frugality of the recession for a second? I'd be very interested to hear what those in the know are musing
