Just a small question. I was on my way back from Stratford this afternoon, when between Caledonian Road and Camden Road, we passed 378018 (about 4.30pm) which seemed to be waiting on the line from Kings Cross to enter the NLL (sorry don't know the junction name).
Just made me wonder why it was there, as I've never seen a 378 on that line before. Had it terminated at Camden and went there to reverse or something?

I like the way the soft southerners don't like their 378s - those of us up north have to put up with Pacers - uncomfortable, completely unsafe and suitable for nowhere except CF Booth.

ISTR that Silverlink 313s used go to the WAGN depot (Hornsey?) for some sort of maintenance (wheel turning?), so it may well be a case of new companies, new stock, but same purpose. And if I understand the location correctly, it would have come south on the GN...

But the reason maintenance on the class 313s was done at Hornsey was because the other 313s are based there. Class 378s go to New Cross Gate depot for maintenance.

Nothing wrong with the 378's comfort wise, but many of us have grown up with the fact that being able to look out of the window beside us is part of the fun of a train journey. Longitudinal seating removes this pleasure and leaves us looking at a scruffy youth sitting oppisite, picking his nose, examining his find and not being quite sure what to do with it. I've started carrying a book to read on the 378's. Something I never did on the 313's

The North London Incline is often used to turn around NLL trains at Camden Road. Class 313's did used to go to Hornsey for tyre turning on the wheel lathe there but it is unlikely a Class 378 would be sent there although getting to and from New Cross depot is a bit of an involved operation until the link at Highbury & Islington is commissioned.

Aye lad, they don' call 'em Noddin' Donkeys for nowt yer know! As to the opening post question, it could have simply been on a short working and thus reversed on the line you mentioned, it might have been reversed there as the main route was being used.
