Can any one tell me if Kings Cross SSL Platforms are fitted with an operational public address system. The reason being whilst waiting for a H & C service to Barking (or Plaistow) there was a 30 minute gap in the service and not one announcement made (11.10 to 11.40). Eventually a scruffy looking CSA sauntered along the platform and when I asked why was there such a big gap in the service I received the reply "Dunno" I then asked why No PA announcments were being made "Dunno" I asked him if he could find out when the next service would be and why no announcements had been broadcast he then used his Radio to contact the control room who informed him that trains were being turned at Moorgate but a Plaistow Train was currently at Edgeware Road. So why was this information not being freely transmitted to customers they are normally quick to broadcast the 'nagging' messages Being an Ex Train Operater I fully understand that a million and one things can cause shutdowns and delays, that is not my issue. But lack of information to customers regarding delays is a big issue, as had I known then I could have boarded one of the 4 circle line trains or Met to Aldgatethat passed through and worked another route home out. The dot Matrix also kept scrolling up next plaistow train within 10 mins throughout the delay which makes things worse.

The dot matrix is linked to our Trackernet system, and predicts what would have been originally a "Plaistow" service - which is then changed to another destination. Unfortunately the prediction system isn't clever enough yet to be able to see this.
The dot matrix at King's Cross eastbound will show only "actual" trains that have departed Baker Street - so there will never be anything "properly" predicted beyond around the next 5 minutes.
I don't wish to attack King's Cross staff on here, but as it is one of 2 stations I use on my journey to/from work each day, I do sympathise with the occasional lack of information there. They do tend to rely on the incredibly unsuitable computerised PA system there, and seem to rarely add their own "live" messages.
Being a key station I know for a fact that they are always kept in the information loop from our room. The problems this morning were certainly being displayed on the "Rainbow boards" throughout all stations.
All I can say is, being an ex-Train Op, and if that was with LU, maybe next time employ that old adage that you used to hear being passed on: "take the first train and change."

Now when we get a computer system that can work out whether an alternative tube route is quicker than a direct bus we shall really have a world class system ;D
