Afternoon chaps (and chapettes),
As I wandered down to the E/B platform at Gloucester Road last night at about 1800ish, there was a district line train just departing westbound to Ealing Bdy (in service) from the W/B circle line platform (2?). Any particular reason for this? Just struck me as a bit of an odd time to do such a thing, plus there were many confused tourists on the normal W/B platform!
Ta in advance ~ Jim.

Though we don't have any timetabled moves through P.2, it's not unheard of for District trauns to go through this route - on departure trains can still be routed to Earls Court.
There's many reasons why it could have gone through that route - for example the signaller couldn't get the points to set correctly, he had selected the wrong route and the driver was instructed to accept that route rather than hold the service up whilst the signaller corrected the route or perhaps the T/Op had accepted a wrong route in error - it happens!

Do D78s still need to cut out end doors on platform 2? I seem to remember from D78 Refurb design that this was the only platform that D78 needed a door cut-out, but maybe there were later adjustments to the station?

Yes, they even have the Announcement to state that the last doors will not open at the next station

As juliang says it is the only location where the cut out is still needed - there has been no changes to the platform. Platform 3 was modified some years ago whereby we pull into the tummel at the front of the train and there are monitors located adjacent to where the train halts, hereby negating the need to cut the rear doors out. Occasionally there is a need for the cut outs to be used - for example a few months ago when works were being done on the east end of the westbound platform at Parsons Green the cut out was used as the very end of the platform was part of the work site. This enabled trains still to stop rather than having to carry passengers on to Putney Bridge and for them to return to PG on an eastbound service.
