Does anyone remember a sheet which was issued with a list of the differences between O Stock and P Stock (It could have been CO and CP by then perhaps)?
I would like to see a copy if such exists. Does anyone remember anything about it?

I don't remember it but I can type out a list of known differences:
O stock had guards controls in cab, P stock at the trailing end O stock did not have butterfly cocks, P stock did O stock brake controllers differed, except 13008 which was same as P stock O stock door rib slightly larger to house PDC - never fitted there O stock PDC fitted internally different to P stock neater arrangement O stock ventilators differs, 'A' ends didn't have ventilators O stock compressors were CP30 but (most) P stock were KL114s (later replaced) O stock bogies on motor cars differed to P and Q38 bogies (and O stock trailers) O stock motor cars initially fitted with different seats O stock tail lights differed from P stock, with initially O stock having no fixed location O stock had no grab rails at trailing end (due to lack of guard!)
that's it off the top off my head.....

Interestingly, CO Stock DM 54014 "did" have an outside door 'butterfly' cock, the only CO DM to have them. Whether it was one of those trials prior to the rest of the CO motor cars being done (and not, in the event), I don't know, nor when it was done. Just been looking at a photo of it.

This is all so timely bearing in mind that I took delivery of three Q38 cars from the site of sin (ebay! Don't tell the wife) the other day that will form the basis of my OO gauge CO/CP 6-car set. I love this forum!

OK I've now got 25 differences between O and P Stock cars. Anyone want to add any? It'll all appear in No 19 of the District Electric Train Series in Underground News. Car body drawing will be in No. 18.

The gold-painted ventilation grille above the J-door which carried the car number was different on the O's, and with the car number plate being to a more proportioned bullseye design. I still have the combined two for 14048 sitting above a doorway here as I write.

O stock ventilators differs, 'A' ends didn't have ventilators ..... I can understand most of the differences as being either because of the different intended uses, or because the design was modified between the O and the later P stocks. But this one has me puzzled - why was a ventilator fitted at one end of the unit and not the other? Surely they didn't build all the A end motors first, and then redesign the cab before building any D ends?

No, the reason why the 'A' cars didn't have vents over the cab ends was because they had ventilation between the middle transverse pair of seats. The reason for this was to cool the Metadyne machine. The 'A' cars only had the Metadyne machine and the 'D' ends had the remaining auxillary equipment (Motor generator, compressor, air res etc..)
The design was altered on the P stock.

It was indeed; the fan intake was through the transverse seat riser.
