I have a rare postcard photo of a 2-car unit of Metropolitan Railway saloon stock on the shunt neck next to Acton Town station in 1935. The unit is one of the three which were used for regenerative braking trials using the Metadyne system. The unit is painted red/cream. It looks as if it has been towed out of the works by a District car. The photo is rather damaged by streaks and the contrast is poor. I want to get it into a printable state for Underground News. I wonder if anyone can recommend an expert restorer who might be able to do something to improve it at a reasonable price?

I really hope it can be printed. Was it one of the outer end cars with the replaced marker light box and destination plates? Wow!

I only have the side view and it's very faint. If all goes well, I will get it into UN later this year in the District Electric Train series. I'm expanding the remit to cover CO/CP etc stock and associated Metropolitan use. The May issue covered No 15 "Horse Boxes" (remember them?) and I am currently writing No 19.
We do know that 3 x 2-car units were converted for Metadyne trials and that a 4-car unit was used on the Circle for a time. They also did high speed tests with it on the Watford to Harrow section. It did trials up and down the S Ealing test track too.
