I received WTT 215 from October 1965 today. While the times tend to correspond with those in my Underground Guide collection covering the mid-late 60s and early 70s, the set numbers are different. All the set #s are in the 1xx series, with 8 and 9 used also. When did the Met #2 change to set numbers in the 0xx series?

When did the Met #2 change to set numbers in the 0xx series? On or around 26/1/70, I think. There was a big sorting of WTTs - the Picc left the District galley and started its own (new series). Something strange - I don't know what exactly - caused the introduction of the timetable to be delayed from 26/1/70 to 2/ 2/70. I've only got the No1 Section WTT, which is printed with the date of 26/1/70, but corrected in red biro to 2/2/70. Although it is the No 1 section, there are of course through trains from No2 section into the City. These have a mix of single and double digit numbers, which I guess would be shown in the UndergrounD guide as 00x and 0xx - yes? In the preamble, it states that ' in connection with the future introduction of programme-machine controlled train description apparatus at Baker Street, Hammersmith and City line trains have been renumbered in the series 221-245. From that I would infer that this is when the single and double digit train numbers came in on the No2 section. I've got a copy of the PM TD introduction notice in the library; I'll climb up and dig it out to see what it says and then move the thread to historical. EDIT: Hmm; nothing specific, but of course as soon as programme machines were introduced (8/11/71) then 8 and 9 can't be used as Train Description numbers. The renumbering is an example of (now sadly lacking) joined-up working: the numbers were in use for nearly two years prior to the introduction of the machines allowing the signalling department a degree of latitude in installing the gubbins.

In January 1970 the GLC assumed control of London Transport. If my memory serves me correctly, the delay of one week of the new timetables was because of the cuts and service reductions that were planned (political intervention is nothing new!). Some did not take place. For example, there was to have been no Chesham service on Sundays, but this was reprieved to operate hourly on reduced operating hours (an hour later start and an hour earlier finish), which lasted for some years.
The 'fast' Amersham service on Sundays was reduced to hourly and one all-stations Watford train was diverted to Amersham per hour to maintain 2tph to Amersham. This meant that Watford had 3tph in the 15/15/30 pattern.
On the Central Line the Hainault-Woodford shuttle became half-hourly all day on Sundays (previously 15 mins from 10.30).
There were also station closures at weekends - Fairlop, Barbican, West Brompton and Cannon Street (Saturdays), West Brompton and Ravenscourt Park (Sundays).
The GLC was making its mark.
