Any ideas what the closure on the weekend is for between Wembley and Northwood/Uxbridge is for? It seems a strange closure unless the work is between HOTH and Rayners Lane from a customer's perspective? Then again, if it's to test S-Stock, I'll take my camera and tripod as I'll be in Ickenham right next to the tube line all day Sunday

I'll be in Ickenham right next to the tube line all day Sunday I'm afraid the only stock you will see will be of the 1973 variety. The Piccadilly is running to Uxbridge and nothing else. Bit further down the line, come Sunday you will get the odd engineers train returning to Ruislip depot. The Uxbridge branch is closed as far as Mets are concerned, simply because it is not practible to run just from Uxbridge to Rayners Lane (doing the double-shunt via the siding) when the Picc can offer a better, more direct service on their own.

Can't you shunt via either of the crossovers East of the Station?

Can't you shunt via either of the crossovers East of the Station? Afraid not. The signalling (or lack of it) and types of points in the area don't allow any of the suggested shunt moves.

This closure is one of the most common on the network over the last 18 months or so, last occured at Easter I think, up again first weekend in June.
It crops up with various tweaks to the service at the south end of the Met, ie Wem Pk - Baker/Moorgate/Aldgate (and no south end service at all on at least one occasion I think)
As Met Control says, double shunt with 'A' stock not practical. Picc is running at 6tph through Rayners, so to throw a Met in would block the job somewhat on the Westbound road both roads. Simply no need, the 6 tph Picc covers for the normal 6+3, as demand tends to be reduced when engineering works take place (ie passenger advice to use the Central from the Ruislip area etc)
One thing that has changed on this package in recent times (implemented on the Easter weekend I believe) is that the Picc is now 21 tph through the central area.
During past closures the Picc was reduced to 18 tph to free up T/Op resource to extend to Uxbridge all day and cover the Met. This was at the detriment of the Picc whose loadings are very heavy on the weekends, particularly noticeable in the Picc Circus - South Kens area in the afternoon/early evening. Throw in football games and closures on other lines and the Picc can get absoultely wedged.
Picc now runs at 21tph central area during these closures. T4 has lost out to free up the T/Op resource and now gets a 3tph service on such closures.

It crops up with various tweaks to the service at the south end of the Met Yes with a different TTN each time - you're not the ones who mark up the crew reliefs each time ;D Noticeably this weekend sees very few closures compared with weekends of late, with only 3 lines seeing engineering work. Lucky coincidence I suppose, as I can't think of anything "special" about this weekend in particular to maintain services.

The reason why there are so few closures, particularly on Sunday is that there is both the London Marathon, and Whitney Houston performs the O2 tonight. Of course, O2 concerts have not stopped jubilee line closures in the past, so it's probably thanks to the marathon that it's open!

Of course, O2 concerts have not stopped jubilee line closures in the past, so it's probably thanks to the marathon that it's open! I really don't think it's been especially planned this way. Last year I remember we had shutdowns over the Marathon weekend (just not in the Marathon-served areas). Much as the Marathon draws crowds, it's all fairly random where people join and leave the network along the route, and DLR takes the brunt.
