So that we can run a train that is not currently passed for passenger service and test it so that one day it will be I will point out that as yet it is not known where / when the train will run, or if it will venture further than depot at all. The closure is in place to afford any testing that may or may not be carried out.

Surely, you could cover it with PA announcements and staff on the platforms, or is it too much form filling and health and safety?

It does seem slightly OTT to close the entire line to test the new train(s), to me... although that's looking at it from a customer point of view.

According to the weekly email, the closure on Sunday is for "track replacement work". Is this because TfL think it sounds better than "train testing", or is this in addition to train testing?

Closing the whole line to test a train - which may not actually be tested anyway?!
Wouldn't it make sense to shut (say) just one branch, and run the train on that?

But the train would then need to get to that branch, wouldn't it?

....or test it at night? ....or early morning and begin the service at say 10-11am like NR do?

But the train would then need to get to that branch, wouldn't it? Well, we know it can physically fit on the line as far as Amersham, because that's how it got to Neasden in the first place. So why not tow it back to Chalfont and test it on the Chesham branch? Then you can keep the rest of the line open. (If it's not in service, the fact it doesn't fit in the bay won't matter) I'm sure it wouldn't be easy, but would it be possible, in order to keep more of the network open?

There must be a very good reason why any testing couldn't be limited to a branch or couldn't be undertaken at night. Because if there wasn't then the management on the Metropolitan Line would have taken a different option.

Must be to do with signals, although I thought they were all converted to work with the S stock?

The only major work noted in the TC for this weekend are new train arrestors to be installed in Rickmansworth North Sidings and Amersham Reversing Sidings. As the service is running north of Baker Street on all branches on Saturday and the whole line closure is only for Sunday that will preclude any test running north of Watford South Junction. With the Piccadilly running to Uxbridge that only leaves Baker Street to Watford for test running?.

One of my colleagues sent out an email telling us that said "equipment" wouldn't be tested again until the last week in April!

Is this the first time that a replacement bus service has run between Amersham and West Ruislip via Rickmansworth and Ruislip?
