Maybe the old signs can be sold off to enthusiasts at a profit

What were they thinking !
In addition to the one stuck over missing tiles, others, of differing sizes seem to have been randomly slung up overlaping bits of green tiled "frame" patterns. So the gaps in the roundels have odd shape bits of green or cream showing.
Sorry this "effort" just does not look right !!!

The damage to the stations really doesn't surprise me!!
During the LT Museum's open day I was talking to one of the guys behind the stalls @ Acton. He reported that contractors now turn up, having quoted the lowest possible amount in order to win the work of removing/stripping stations, and literally rip/bend/destroy LU signage resulting in it being lost... an absolute shame!
The Museum has sold LU station name roundalls in the past that have been donated to it (a fair and reasonable means of income). Sadly due to this 'rip it down' attitude of contractors who have undercut the competition (the staff don't care about the station furniture and will remove it in the shortest time possible) this income stream may well end...
As an aside station name roundalls (e.g. Seven Sisters) have been sold by the LT Museum for as little as £25-35, only to be sold on (typically to the American market) for £95+. I'm not against anyone making a profit, but a mark-up of 300+% is IMO truly obscene given that the museum is a charity (if all profits, or a significant part are donated or passed back to the museum I apologise). Ultimately it proves that the museum has not appreciated the value of such items and should have chosen to sell them online itself.

Shame? It's an absolute travesty! You were with me when I spotted those beautiful Arsenal signs, I'd have paid good money to take those away! We can't allow people to keep destroying history like that. All the contractors are interested in is the retail value of the scrap/recycling material, and not preserving things for the next generation and future generations to see and marvel at. Just thinking back to Acton and seeing those ticket machines that I'd long forgotten about is proof enough to me that things need preserving.

Quite aside from the damage to the old signs, if I had engaged contractors to do that work and they made such a pig's ear of it, they wouldn't be getting paid until they had come back and put it right. It looks a complete mess.

If money is tight use it sparingly on things that make a real difference to passengers.

You think that's bad? at least they were old signs they replaced. When tubelines refurbished Finchley Road they took all of the ''old'' signs which were actually pretty new, from the 1990's with new johnston font and replaced them with identical ones, but the only difference was the new ones have way out and a non smoking symbol on them. madness!

Could work if placement was right, #4 works for example.

Could work if placement was right, #4 works for example. That's because all the screw holes don't show up on green!

well there, we have the solution then! Signs should be placed on Green. Then we need to retile large areas as there's not enough green to go around!

Whats wrong with colour matched green paint? Cheaper and easier to apply.

Could work if placement was right, #4 works for example. #4 doesn't work !!!! 21146 has been kind with the picture angle. Although it is set on a green oblong tiled panel, the roundel isn't centred. it's fitted with 1/3 of the green panel to it's left and 2/3s of the green panel to it's right

How has this work been signed off though? Its one thing everyone complaining rightly about a patheticly sub standard job, but has anyone put in an official complaint, and who was the person who signed it off after? Work has to be approved, so its not just the cowboy contractors that are to blame, but the manager who clearly cares more about his salary than the pride in his job and company.
If it ain't broke don't fix it. Londoners pay high enough fares as it is. You can't pee on someone and tell them its raining. And my apologies for being over the top, but the amount of unnecessary work I've seen done and been told about combined with the shockingly low standards that have been accepted in more than an handful of sites is just woeful. :<|

These new station nameboards are awful. I cant see them proply as the old ones on a white background.
Here is a complaint about them to London Underground
"Having passed through Temple station a couple of times recently, I have noticed that the platform name board roundels have been changed to an open design with gold ish lining
These new name boards at Temple and some other stations asweel like Regents Park are AWFUL. The old design was much better as they were/are on a white background and so for someone like me who eyesight is not 100% perfect they show up better.
The main problem with the new nameboards is that because they have been placed over tiling that is a simlar colour to the gold lining they don't contrast very well. Also even if they did'nt have gold lining the dark blue and red would not even contrast well with the the tilng either.
So can I please suggest that before London Underground consider upgrding anymore station nameboards, they bear in mind that the station names show up better on a white background."

If the new signs are actually worse to see for the visually impaired then TfL have contravened the DDA (or whatever) and are in breach of the law. Perhaps you should point that out to them.

I've noticed it happening everywhere, mianly when CBS outdoor advertising are involved, noticed how all the old roundals have disappeared at stations such as Holborn. Worst thing was, they made more of a mess with what they took out with what they put it...
