Someone at work is asking if there is going to be a "Steam on the Met" this year?
Can't remember having seen anything about it, so thought I would ask if anyone here knows.
I would have thought there is too much going-on with the S stock, but that's just a guess from someone not involved with the Met.
Thanks
Roger

There has not been a Steam on the Met for years. There may be a special trip with Sarah Siddons however. I noticed the NDM was missing from the 1938 tube stock set on Saturday, so that may be out of action for a while.
Does the Trailer have 2 compressors?

Thanks for that, will pass info on.
Sorry about calling it "Steam on the Met", as I know it is now better called "Heritage Days"

I never managed to attend a Steam on the Met event - shame that these kind of events are less and less frequent nowadays.
Yet Paris and New York regularly run heritage stock in normal passenger service. Perhaps we are just weighed down with an over abundance of rules, red tape, Health and Safety and pointless bureaucracy . . .

Yet Paris and New York regularly run heritage stock in normal passenger service. Excuse me, we run several heritage trains every day. Have you seen the A-stock lately ;D Besides it's not just all about the red tape. These events have to be planned so as not to disrupt the various other works going on at weekends, and they also need a fair amount of staff to work - and you simply won't get enough staff simply through volunteers. Plus, when you add in everything else, such as upkeep of a network for a once-in-a-while steam engine, you soon find it is simply not cost-effective. We are a commuter network after all. Much as the events are popular, our priorities must lean towards providing the everyday railway in the current financial climate.

Very true indeed. But then why did it last for 11 years in the first place?

Mainly because for those 11 years, it was possible to do, and the measures I mentioned were achievable / affordable.

Were the locos used not private and thus maintained elsewhere and not by LU?
Basically, Metronet didn't want to provide Steam on the Met because it was too much like hard work and would eat into their profits! ;D In any case- why should they - it wasn't in their contract.

Fantastic, that would brighten up my commute! Shame the old steam shed has had a 'garage conversion' ;D

L99, one of the former London Transport panniers, and a participant in Steam on the Met in the 90's, has just been restored to LT livery at the Spa Valley Railway. It returned to service last weekend hauling former LT stock, and is expected to run frequently at the line during this season.

And what a fantastic weekend it was too, although only one T Stock car was running on Saturday.
There was also an engineering train comprising L99 - F397 - B560.

'Steam on the Met' did wonders for LT's public relations. I was a steward at one of the first steam events, and I don't recall seeing one disgruntled passenger, as everyone was out to enjoy the experience. Yes, Metronet were not that bothered to continue with these events for they gained nothing from them. I still have a couple of those wonderful posters produced especially for them. Jim Stringer
