Not really sure if this warrants a whole new thread but I can't find anywhere else to put it.
The (seemingly) automated station announcements at HotH have been saying "The East London line is closed" for god knows how long - is that really necessary now? I mean it's not part of London Underground anymore and there aren't any service updates re: LO at any other tube stations that I know of.

I think they have to say it until the East London Line reopens as part of LO - crazy hah!

Ickenham does the East London Line announcement too... very annoying and utterly pointless.

My Tube Map app (which has service updates) for my iPhone claimed Oysterley-Hounslow East on the District Line to be closed...

LU produce guidelines for making PA's.
Making PA's at Harrow-on-the-Hill or Ickenham regarding the East London Line is not a requirment under LUs guidelines.

I'd hazard a guess someone hasn't worked out how to (metaphorically) change the record... although armed with that information, I may challenge it next time I hear it at Ickenham

I think the references to the East London Line became officialy obsolete some time last year. Whoever is responsible for the announcements in that part of the network just hasn't turned it off. It's not inaccurate information that will mislead someone affecting their journey, sure that once the Overground ELR is opened the service updates will be amended.

Maybe it is like the situation on the Jubilee Line when the DLR to City Airport opened; the Jubilee automated on-train announcements (both voice and displays) continued to say at Canary Wharf "change for the airport bus" (which had been withdrawn), and said nothing at Canning Town, where the DLR connection to the airport now operated.
This carried on for over a year after the changeover. There was a contract dispute beween all the various parties over who should bear the costs of changing the Jubilee announcements, which took this extraordinary length of time to get resolved. The fact that passengers were being sent the wrong way all this time, and probably quite few missed their planes as they roamed the streets outside Canary Wharf looking for the now non-existent bus, was apparently neither here nor there.

Automated announcements on stations are fairly rare. The only announcements that are automated (that I can think of) are fire alert related, mind the gap and on Tubelines stations the PA which tells you the next train destination etc.
Harrow-on-the-Hill and Ickenham are likely to have the new SMS PA system which is a little different to other PA systems as it doesn't reset at midnight.
What has likely happened is somebody has programmed the East London Line message to repeat daily and has left the PA in the playlist. Ickenham and H-O-H are on the same station group so perhaps even by the same person?

Harrow-on-the-Hill and Ickenham are likely to have the new SMS PA system which is a little different to other PA systems as it doesn't reset at midnight. It sounds to me that these stations are on the "Voice Perfect" system. It allows you to select status for each line when creating a pre-recorded announcement. Some staff are probably changing the ELL to Closed rather than leaving in it effectively with good service (which wouldn't be announced anyway!) EG: after making the required selections for a typical morning, the announcements could sound something like "The East London Line is closed, the District and Piccadilly lines are part closed, the Circle line has minor delays... There is a good service on all other lines" Hope this helps...
