Up until now I hadn't realised the centre door/panel was a sliding door.
I like how they have a man stationed at the TPWS grid to stop people tripping over it, I wonder if they'll have one of those in real life...

There were about 17 of us, a mixture of LU, TfL and LOROL staff. Though it was all booked through TfL London Overground it seemed majority of the orginisation, planning, and delivery was LU driven. This is only from my observation though. The whole affair was rather interesting, especially the cuppa of welcomed tea and toilet break at Shadwell. I have posted a few pictures on flickr, with a couple more of the depot to follow. It had to be said LOROL were exceptional professional leaving amazed and impressed. www.flickr.com/photos/routemaster/

I notice for the exercise there were steps going from the train down ot the track. Will this happen in the event of a real tip out?

I can't imagine the steps aren't carried in whatever form. The thought of trying to detrain pensioners or others unsteady on their feet without them beggars belief.

See www.squarewheels.org.uk/rly/stock/1973tubeStock/73refFrontLadrSotM.jpgDon't other stocks have an emergency ladder stowed under one of the passenger seats for the same purpose?

Out of interest, how is the GSMR holding up? I have heard that it has failed a few times.

Out of interest, how is the GSMR holding up? I have heard that it has failed a few times. It has been working pretty well recently. The main issues has bee with registering the GSM-R at the start of a journey where it has failed to give a headcode, but this has been mainly due to the previous headcode still being 'locked' in the system (i.e. the GSM-R was not de-registered properly on the previous trip in the same cab). Also on some units, the GSM-R signal has been lost intermittently (1-5 seconds) within the tunnel section, this may be due to the positioning of the antennas in the tunnels. On a different note, today we did the first of 2 Capacity Headway Tests or 'Stress Test' as it has been known. Basically, the idea was to run as many trains (up to 17) out on the core section (Dalston - New Cross Gate/New Cross) to a timetabled service. This is to check that the substations and signalling systems can handle the traffic. At one point, one of the substations was shut down to see if the other could power all 17 trains on the line. It seemed to go according to plan. Tomorrow, the other substation will be tested.

What sort of tests are being carried out, other than track, signalling and electrical supply?

Vitesse and 378 driver. Thanks for letting me know. As you know the pigeon post is bad nowadays and we only get the odd message filter through to the north of how things are going. The GSMR is only thing I have heard that concerns me. I must apply for a passport and pay a visit sometime.
