I believe that's to install new train arrestors or whatever they call buffers nowadays. I can feel some annual leave coming on for that week as the stepping back in the peaks will not be happening.

Steping Back of T/Ops will be happening at Moorgate during the peaks instead of Aldgate.

Steping Back of T/Ops will be happening at Moorgate during the peaks instead of Aldgate. Not unless they are going to seriously change the number of trains into the city and reduce the stepback times.

I believe that's to install new train arrestors or whatever they call buffers nowadays. They are being installed over 10 consecutive weekends possessions from 1st January. Some hoarding is going up, to be completed by Christmas eve, so that the District isn't affected by the work. The hoarding is due to be removed by 19th March 2010. The full details are in Traffic Circular 52, section 1.7

Yes & Yes to both those points.
Met will be at 12 tph max into the city, with a Uxbridge - City slow service cancelled every 16 minutes in the peaks.

So next point, maybe they should reduce it a bit more, as the time taken to get Mets in and out of Moorgate (blocking both east and westbound roads) is considerably more than it is at Aldgate.
It might look good on paper, but you need to factor in one very important delaying aspect. That is the way in which the computer likes to work Moorgate (much to the frustration of some of the signallers I might add.) If it throws a wobbly and decides to route 2 consecutive westbounds before putting a train to the bay, then add 4 minutes to eastbound trains.
I'm sure that has been factored in. As have the couple of days I have left on my next year leave allowance ;D ;D

Indeed, but as I said, I am confident they have factored all this into their planning (we can only hope the message from the source of experience know as DD's Forum gets through ;D ;D)

Believe me, things 'nearly' always get factored into the planning
It's not the 'factoring in' you need to worry about!
It's wether someone in the post planning/implementation stage actually gets down the tunnel with hammer and chisel in hand and fits whatever needs sorting out!

When are the platforms at Aldgate being altered? Are they able to take the extra 2m of S stock train?

Aldgate platforms 2 & 3 themselves won't need modifying. By the wonders of the new arrestors, some minor end barrier tweaks, new stopping marks and a co-acting (I think) signal at platform 2, S8 trains will fit and be able to open all the doors.

What about the Circle line platforms?

Platform 4 will be for S7's (new Circle trains) not S8 of course. There's no signalled move to it from Liverpool St. Platform 1 has had barrier moves to accomodate S7's and will get everything else needed for normal and reversing operation of S7's. S8's will be able to worked to platform 1 in emergency/degraded conditions with the same limitations and procedures as A stock. So there won't be CSDE for S8's on platform 1, only S7.

Aldgate platforms 2 & 3 themselves won't need modifying. And of course there is the very large girder at the end of platforms 2 & 3 that is in the process of being altered to gain the necessary headroom! Will mind your heads be added to mind the gap at Aldgate?
