No - Group station Managers are not 'operational' staff and therefore do not hold any licences (well some do, but it's not a requirement).

Another point that hasn't been touched on is that a line may be part suspended, but some drivers, particularaly night drivers are booked to travel to the other end of the line to do work and travel back. Only last week I as an Upminster driver had a night turn which was booked to travel from Upminster to Barking by c2c service, then Barking to Tower Hill by taxi, then train from Tower Hill to Earls Court, then pick up my train to take it empty to Ealing Common Depot and get a taxi back to Upminster arriving at 03.20 to do a couple of Dag East shuttles from Upminster Depot out at 04.40 in the morning. Hardly sitting around doing nothing.

Surely they could have had a west end duty run that train and you could have remained up the east end?

Indeed Jim that is one silly duty! Bet it did your head in, all that taxiing about. It sounds like bits and bobs that schedules missed out, and had to cobble together just for full coverage.

A total of 52 minutes of train driving on an 8 hour turn, plus £200 in taxi fares doesn't seem the best use of manpower or costs does it? It was a bits left over after the sheets were done turn though, as the other night turns spent their entire time on the right ends of the line.
