Was on a West Ruislip -> Epping service yesterday, between WR and White City, and spotted 'Special' being shown on the WR bound platforms...
Around about Perivale (between 1200 and 1230), the special train came through with it's front indicator saying 'Waterloo' and I couldn't work out why, as it certainly wasn't in service (and was going the wrong way anyway!) so just wondering what it was... if anyone knows?

Probably the driver having a bit of fun - the DVA on the Central and W&C stock included both lines when built. I'm sure I remember hearing of a W&C line train displaying and broadcasting Ongar as the destination years ago!

I did wonder if it was a W&C line train, but I thought they could only get out by being lifted... Ah well, appears to not be as interesting as I hoped it might have been

No it was a stock move from White City Depot/Sidings East to West Ruislip 23RD then to depot. If it's got tape around the cab you can be sure it's a fine Central line.
