Very good website here with some crisp detail shots of diagrams; other rarely-seen joys like TD set up equipment in Finchley Road for CHX, KX push button panel in Covent Garden and Northolt push button at West Ruislip.

And the owner of that Fotopic does have a lovely beard and an unhealthy view that wearing socks with sandals is a good thing!

Don't recall seeing the owner anywhere but what an excellent page! So glad you put that up, that really is fascinaing. It'd take a good while to get through all the pictures in detail.

Yeah - I'm puzzling over this one ; I think it is NH 2 with RNH 3/7 underneath and the remains of the fixings for the two goods distants and FRNH 3 akimbo over the air main: if that's the case what's the main signal under the cable bridge - the photographer must be looking out of the tunnel mouth, I think.

This was NH2, the Park Junction northbound junction home signal, which was a combined stop and repeater signal. (NH1 was the Highgate HL NB starter). The flat top to the signal is because it used to have a junction route indicator (arbour lights) above it for the Alexandra Palace route. The photographer would have the tunnels behind him, but not immediately behind - the tunnels mouths were some distance back - not sure by how much but possibly a train's length (and a bit?).

TVM - I've just had a reply (in another place) from the photographer's wife dating it to 1977/79 and the track in rear of the signal was most probably lifted. NH 2 was fixed at red, pending alterations, apparently
The signal was less than 400' from the tunnel mouth as FRNH 1 was dead on the distance and inside the tunnel. I suspect a train length and a car.
