We went to the LT Museum yesterday and picked up a couple of DVDs: - 2 DVD set: Yesterday's Britain No 41 "Fifties Underground" and "Building London's Victoria Line" - Tube trains - all change - 100 years of London Underground trains
Fifties U'd is an absolute hoot with four little safety and trackside shorts, inc one of how not to hold a shovel when working in the 4ft with the juice still on! The Vic line one was full of 'ooh' and 'ahh' moments for himself, 'very enjoyable actually' are his exact comments. Very detailed. About an hour long The tube trains one was great, with some really good footage; some of it's a bit ropy in quality but the content more than makes up for it. I found the sound a bit fuzzy for my poor rubbish ears. It was fun trying to work out where the footage was shot.
Well worth a go if you like that kind of thing!

The 'Power Signal Lineman' film is shot at West Ruilsip, Greenford and White City - all locations I spent time at during my apprenticeship. During the film he does at least two if not three things that would cause him to be stopped and instantly fail on the Technical Officer's practical exam today!

I bought tube trains - all change today, Its ok but it is flawed in places. Has anyone noticed how the fake soudtracks on the cine film sequences does'nt match the trains that the sound goes with, such as 1986 stock film with the soundtrack of the 1996 stock door open chimes and the mind the gap from the D.V.A
and as for the idiot narrator, at one point says something about O.P.P standing for one person Operation!

There's a vicious rumour that '100 years of london underground trains' contains a shot of 1935 tube stock. Can anyone confirm this?

I have seen Tube trains- all change, very good is it too. It is published by Online Video. Lots of their footage is Cine and Amateur shot footage, but it is still welcome to watch, for historical/anorak reasons. Online have just released the second volume titled "Tube trains-the others" [Tube trains-all change was the first] which features the Post office Railway, GN&C, Heathrow Express and the DLR. Mine is in the post somewhere. Another Online DVD I have bought recently is about old Great Eastern EMUs, great footage, but the narration by William Riddihough is awful. He stops talking halfway through a comment and then clumsily carries on! Wilf Watters shouldn't use him again. www.signal-box.com/acatalog/online-video1.html#aOV350D

There is a new Online DVD coming (or maybe even out by now) - "Tube Trains - the others", covering Heathrow Express, Post Office Railway, DLR, GN&C and Waterloo & City. I comprises archive and modern film.
The archive film is worth seeing for the interest, if not the quality, especially a 5-car 1940 W&C train arriving at Waterloo main line sidings under its own power, a single coach train at Bank, and 2-car Pre-1938s at Drayton Park on a foggy day!

Err, I got in before you Reg! Haha.
Watched it today [tube trains-the others]. Not as good as their usual offerings. Dry sterile narration, and the editing was a bit slipshod in places, still recommend it though.

The one thing about tube trains all change is the amount of rare unseen footage, that dvd must have had the first proper video's of 1983 stock filmed on a proper camera with sound out there!, I hope some more of that will be out in the next one.
