When the Met regularly ran services that were hauled by electric locos south of Rickmansworth and steam locos north of there, how long did the actual swapping of the engines take? For example on a northbound service, what was the interval between the electric loco coming to a stand with the incoming service and the steam locomotive being coupled up and ready to depart?

I believe timetabled stops (arrival to departure) were down to three minutes.

Looking at the last WTT 189 (12/6/61) to have the note L at Ricky denoting loco changeover four minutes is given on the NB and the same on the SB.

The Met crews were very proud of how quickly they could make the changeover considering the operator was working with live rails around him!

After spending the afternoon researching signal ling oddities on one of the odder Welsh railways for another forum, I've managed to dive into the WTT library and come up with a bit more detail.
In the Summer 1941 WTT loco changeovers and L were booked at Ricky for three minutes in both directions; by the Winter 1941 WTT this allowance had changed to four minutes.
It would appear that between WTTs 82 and 87 there was a significant revision of running times. I shall have to compare them in some detail, now I've noticed it. I suppose this could be connected with the common weekdays portion not being republished in the Winter 1941 WTT. This might finally be the thing that gives me a significant understanding of Met. main WTTs. ;D Uxbridge times seem to be unaffected - my favourite: stand time; seems to be changed quite a lot in the Harrow SB area. I shall have to get my pencil out later.
