There are loads of builders huts being erected on the ex Silverlink side of this station. Is this the start of building Crossrail or is this to do with the DLR? Does anybody know what the long term plans are for this station? Will there be a new separate station built for Crossrail or will there be a brand new station built to house both Crossrail and the DLR? Are the plans to have Crossrail above ground at Custom House or in a tunnel? With all the work going on at Royal Victoria there seems to be very little room to start building a tunnel between the 2 stations.

We too have wondered, as we have not seen detailed drawings, just how the Crossrail station will be fitted in to the space available at Custom House, with its narrow platforms, especially as Victoria Dock Road alongside is sufficiently narrow as to be substandard and in need of widening in itself, with almost no pavement on the railway side; goodness knows where any station building will go.
The only solution seems to be a "Canning Town", with the DLR on top of Crossrail.
Just to the east the tracks pass under the docks in a tunnel which I was always given to believe is substandard clearance and also prone to leakage. One of the two tracks was taken out of service long ago due to these problems. This tunnel is also shown as being used by Crossrail. There is a pumphouse in a Victorian building just to the east of the Connaught Crossing road bridge which still operates continually pumping the tunnel out. Must be very wet in there, and surprising it is seen as a future major route.

See the Crossrail forum thread for news in relation to Custom House (Crossrail) station... it seems the DLR station will form part of the wider development connected with Crossrail.
