News just in! My mate just called me to say his Met train to Harrow has just taken a wrong stick and preceeded down the line towards South Harrow!
They are stuck just beyond Rayners Lane junction now! Will the train be able to reverse up the line into the Uxbridge platform or will it have to do to South Harrow to reverse?

That probably explains the "signal failure" that was mentioned on the TFL departure boards for the Met and Picc.

Yes, via WV 7 and 15 IIRC. The Mets can't. The Picc said we couldn't do that due to width and weight restrictions. The spring toggle points and 11 pts were secured and a wrong direction move back into the platform at Rayners was done. Only the Piccs were affected as the rear of the train was clear of the junction.

As hard as we tried, the Picc said no. I can't see it being a weight issue as we have ballast trains run that way, probably more to do with the width of the A60. It was news to us that it couldn't got to South Harrow, but it got dealt with anyway.

Mrf, you're ok! They are wide, the widest in Britain. I don't mind, its the only way to fit in 3+2 seating! D78 can reverse at Sth Harrow right?

A Stock used to go to and from Acton Works down the S Harrow route. I'm sure they still can but I don't suppose anyone could authorise it at an operating level without a full risk analysis, several tool box conferences, counselling by the HR department, medical assssments and a possession. Cynical? Moi??

I have been told that the train was able to reverse back into Rayners Lane, 90 mins later! I was on this train! It was actually only about 50 minutes later (it left Rayners Lane at about 3:10 and was reversed back into the station just before 4:00).

The delay booked to the customers was 49 minutes. That was the actual delay in them getting to West Harrow. All in all, I think it took about 42 minutes in total to get the train back to Rayners.

If it couldn't have reversed at S.Harrow via mainline shunt, couldn't it have gone via the sidings?

The Mets can't. The Picc said we couldn't do that due to width and weight restrictions. Perhaps you should pin a healthy chunk of the delay on the Piccadilly then ? The List of approved and authorised running routes shows, on Page 23, that A60 and A62 stock are approved to operate between Rayners Lane and Hanger Lane Junction (excluding South Harrow Sidings) in Passenger Service but with a speed restriction of 15mph under bridges D4 (Between South Harrow and Sudbury Hill both roads) , D24 (Between Park Royal and North Ealing boath roads) and D62 (Acton Town Stn w/b fast). Tube Lines are contractually obligated to keep the route maintained accordingly. No special authority would have been required at all, it exists as standard !! Poor show by the Piccadilly and much more disruption than there need have been !

If it couldn't have reversed at S.Harrow via mainline shunt, couldn't it have gone via the sidings? I think the sidings aren't long enough, and presumably the totally uneccesary T/OP "boarding platforms" would be out-of-gauge for A Stock anyway?

The Picc wanted send reverse a D Stock at Boston Manor a few weeks' back until I pointed out they're no longer permitted west of Northfields.
