Maria's passage is a pram! Bebecar or McClaren or similar. But I can't think of anything related on the District! Unless.... Green for District, passage where you have to step. Stepney Green? Or is that just too tenuous? Nope... It's not pram related... And It's not Stepney Green .

Is the 'Maria' anything to do with St Mary per se?

If Maria is a reference to "Ave Maria" then the passage must be an avenue. Unfortunately there don't seem to be any District line stations called Something Avenue.
If it's a reference to "West Side Story", presumably we're looking for one of the Wimbleware stations on the west side of the Circle line. Unfortunately, there's nothing obvious to indicate which one.
If it's a reference to the nun who climbed every mountain in "The Sound of Music", we probably want the highest station on the District line, whichever that is.
It it's a reference to American actress Maria Canals Barrera, we're probably looking for a station near two canals. (You can tell I'm getting desperate now, can't you?)

After three nights' worth of bedtime reading my 'Oxford Dictionary of London Place Names' finally yielded up the nugget of information that Gloucester Road was named after Maria, Duchess of Gloucester. So ... Gloucester Road.

I have been checking every St Mary Street, Avenue, Terrace, Road and variations on 'St Mary', 'Mary' and 'Maria' in London for days.. none abut to a District Station, including St Mary Axe and Ave Maria Lane (both in the City of London). Yes there is a St Mary Court near Stamford Brook but it's not a 'passage' in any sense of the word.
I even thought about 'Black Maria' as in police van, and thus either New Scotland Yard (St James's Park), or Old Scotland Yard (Westminster or Embankment)!

My final thought is that Ave Road is very near Acton Town station.

If Maria is a reference to "Ave Maria" then the passage must be an avenue. Unfortunately there don't seem to be any District line stations called Something Avenue. How many avenue stations are there in total on the LU? According to Wikipedia, the only one is Warwick Avenue on the Bakerloo, and the Bakerloo changes with District line at Paddington, Edgware Road and Embankment, so I guess Embankment.

The reason I suggested Aldgate East was Anna Maria Garthwaite silk designer worked and resided around Spitalfields area in the mid-18th century, now that's desperate!!!

I'm thinking we should start a petition to rename the District the "Maria Line". So far we've found a Maria (or Mary) connection (however tenuous) for just about every station.

Southfields - centre court at Wimbledon - Maria Sharapova
Wimbledon - birthplace of Mary (Maria) Boulding who translated the works of Augustine
Sloane Square - there is a bridal boutique called Maria Grachvogel on Sloane Street
Mile End - nearby church is Our Lady of the Assumption - assumption being Marias passage - the road that leads from the station to the church is called Globe Road, and as you traverse the globe you go on a passage.
Cannon Street - the former church of St Mary Bothaw is in walking (passage) distance long Cannon Street.
Embankment - St Mary Le Strand - you would walk (passage) along the Strand to get from the Station to the church.
Paddington - St Marys Hospital - I think there's a walking passage between two wings of the hospital here.
Edgware Road - you head along the Westway to St Mary's Gardens.
Upminster Bridge - St Mary's Lane with the Convent of the Sacred Heart of Mary leads to Upminster Road which heads towards Upminster Bridge station.

Already suggested Wimbledon (St Mary's Road) and Mile End (Queen Mary College).
I even thought about 'They Call The Wind Maria' from 'Paint Your Wagon': Winding Road is in Becontree.

I'm still working through possibilities! I've only been on it about 20 minutes...
Right! I've come up with 8 ideas in half-an-hour. ;D

So ... Gloucester Road. Me appluds... It is indeed Gloucester Road for the reasons you mention. By request, no new clues will be posted until the new year... but watch out the next set of clues won't be easy to solve.
