I've found it's not so much Tfl(LUL) & Tubelines at odds,it's neither of them have a very high opinion of Thales.

If Tubelines collapses over this I was wondering politically who if anyone will gain out of it. PPP is a Labour inititive and we are now under a Tory mayor and probably a Tory government next time around. I doubt the Tories would want to keep PPP going artifcially by pumping more cash into it, but letting LU take things back in house would be a further burden for TfL and a failed privitisation which the Tories would left with.

So now we know - Tubelines have now confirmed they have no hope of completing the Jubilee line's signalling upgrade any time soon... There is a bit of luck, hopefully as my dads company should be having a meeting with Tube Lines in the near future to take over the project and do all the signalling for the ATO. ;D |

Passing the responsibility across to Thales or another party is irrelevant. Thales are just a subcontractor on the scheme, it is Tubelines who have the management responsibility, Tubelines who selected Thales and the other subcontractors, and Tubelines who have the contract with TfL.

Looking at the opening sentance of the linked BBC article: "London Underground's Jubilee Line could be closed on up to 28 more weekends next year, Tube Lines has admitted." "could be", and "up to" are the bits that some people seem happy to ignore - it looks to me like the fine detail hasn't been finalised yet...... Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Tubelines at all - but it could turn out out to be less drastic than the headlines suggest  |

Also more than likely not complete closures.
Although there is work planned on the Bakerloo Line in 2010, plus no doubt the S stock works will need possessions, could make the possessions available limited.

I thought that they only needed another 6 weekend closures to complete he upgrade and the rest were for training?
Can they not have trains working in manual and ATO at the same time? If so then simply complete the upgrade, let the drivers who have completed ATO training drive in ATO and the rest drive in manual until they have been trained.
As for training they can run a special service during non-peak hours, it's not as if there aren't spare trains laying around during non-peak, last time at 9:30am a few weeks back during the week there were at least 12 trains doing nothing in the Stratford depot.

Tubelines wanted another possession North Greenwich-Stratford before Xmas.When LUL looked at the throughput for a Canary Wharf-West Hampstead shuttle on the 12th/13th,they needed to shift 2,500 an hour,they could only manage 1,500 so that was a no no.They offered Tubelines the 19th/20th even though it was the last weekend before Xmas and Tubelines declined as Thales had given all their staff that weekend off as they will be working over Xmas!!!You really couldn't make it up.

And the District too. And the Picc. when they do the District. And maybe even the Jubilee again when they do the Bakerloo [because of the junction link] And the new Neasden tower system to commission .... Ad finitum ad nauseam. The only positive note on TBTC I can comment on is I guess when they do the DCA for the battery locos and Schomas at Ruislip, they don't actually need to close the Central -- Nick |

Nick,I've heard stories that due to the amount of dual running with the Met & District and also the well publicised problems with TBTC,that the Picc will not get the same system as the Jubilee & Northern.

Yes, I have heard the same thing, JNUP is JNUP and thats it, but only as stories too. Equally I have heard stories that the Picc TBTC will still go ahead as planned ((*)), and even that Seltrac could be in the frame for SSL [and this would greatly simplyfy integrating,dual running i.e. Met/Jub Met/Picc Dist/Picc, would all be the same]. I am sure the contractors will be bidding for it, be interesting to see what happens when announced - I think this will influence Picc upgrade. I have no idea either way, not really any personal opinion on it either. ((*)) the Picc TBTC plan is actually the biggest of the three ... Jubilee is 5 VCC, Northern 7 VCC, and Picadilly planned for 8 VCC, and combine that with both Met and Dist. dual running it is complex. -- Nick |

slightly off topic I know but the track between finchley road and baker street does sound and feel pretty old and with the new signalling put in place would this be a challange if they wanted to replace it after the upgrade is done? so could there be more closures for track work after the jubilee line's upgrade is finished or are they just going to leave the old track there?

Just a heads up,this weekend the Jubilee will now be partially open,Saturday:North Greenwich-Waterloo shuttle,Sunday:Stratford-Waterloo shuttle.

Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel.25th,26th & 27th December they ran 6 trains in full TBTC mode between Stratford and Willesden Green.On 28th December they ran 12 trains in full TBTC mode between Stratford and Waterloo.
