Does anyone know when BR finally stopped running trains on what is now the District line between Campbell Road Junction (east of Bow Road) and Upminster? I have some dates for resignalling, and change of ownership, but I have been unable to determine the last date that their trains ran.

I too have all sorts of different dates for the various stages of segregation, but when the last trains ran I haven't any idea.
However, we must also remember that after 'segregation' (when BR trains no longer ran over what became solely LT tracks), there were facilities for BR trains to "cross" LT tracks - i.e. west of Upminster between the main line and Romford branch (abolished 2/68) and BR trains into May & Bakers east of Dagenham East (abolished 4/69).

There was also a BR crossing at the chemical factory near West Ham in my days on the DR. ISTR it was still in use then, as was the BR crossing at the west end of Upminster. That was certainly still signalled in 1973!

The 'overcrossing' between the Romford branch and the Down LTS (over the District Line tracks) was taken out of commission with effect from 11/2/68 - Traffic Ciccular 6/68. May & Bakers east of Dagenham East was 4/69 - Traffic Circular 15/69.
The "Esso" siding between Bromley and West Ham was abolished 26/10/58 - Traffic Circular 43/58. Is the one you mean?

The acid factory at West Ham had sidings off the Stratford to North Woolwich goods lines.

when i first started as a secondman at ripple lane B.R.,my old drivers, many who worked at plaistow steam shed, told me some of the last BR trains to run on that section of line were the early morning staff trains, that were booked to stop as required on the "local lines"ie lu lines. i take it that these would have stopped when the L.T.&S was electrified. not certain if the early diesels ie class 31s then worked these staff trains,as there was a period of time when emu, steam and diesels worked together.keith jackson

The acid factory at West Ham had sidings off the Stratford to North Woolwich goods lines. Quite liekly, plus the conenction from the DR side. You could still see where the pipework went over the conenction on a gantry.
