I have heard rumours that the Saturday service on the W&C may be withdrawn from 13 March 2009.
Any ideas, folks?
Is it for "work" (surely not), or maybe an easy to implement "Boris cut".
Will it be reinstated?

It may not necessarily be the case this time round, but it has been shut down over weekends in the past for incident training exercises. In any case it is the one of the least inconvenient lengths of tube line to shut off for a weekend (partially given it doesn't run all day anyway, nor on Sundays), so could potentially be used for training exercises, research activities, filming or numerous other reasons.

General cost cutting, I am told. The last Saturday for the line will be the 6 March. From 7 March no Saturday service, which is linked in with WTT change date for the Central Line.

Strange. I've always found the W&C to be quite busy on Saturdays. Not as much as other zone 1 stations, but not as empty as places like the Epping branch.
If LU think this will move the customers on to other lines then I suspect they are wrong, there is probably a bus they can get without changing.

Also the "movers and shakers" at Waterloo know nothing about this...

there is probably a bus they can get without changing. 26 or 76, but it's a long way round as they go over Waterloo Bridge. Jubilee (when running!) or SouthEastern, and then Northern is quickest when the W&C is down.

Really.. where did you hear that, daves67? well that would be telling from a good source and remember its only being considered but it is being considered as an option if it they do decide to shut the service or reduce the service on a Saturday i believe we should find out before April 2010

Well I hope that there will be no more Jubilee closures east of Waterloo at weekends if this takes effect. When there is no Jubilee from Canning Town or Canary Wharf to Waterloo on Saturdays the alternative is DLR to Bank, then W&C. Just the sort of journey that the special interchange passage between these two lines at Bank was so expensively dug for some years ago.

That would be the interchange passage that has existed at least in part since 1898?
Sorry, but somehow I doubt your wish will come true. LU is working feverishly to help Tube Lines complete the Jubilee Line Upgrade and if closures are what is needed to achieve the delivery of the project, then closures there will be.

Almost certainly it is going to get a small stay of execution, back from early March into early April, linking up with the (expected to be) delayed new Central WTT. Sadly, the Jubilee Line upgrade work will be going on for many months past March/April, so no chance of the W&C helping out on Saturdays when the Jubilee is to be shut.

Is there some form of loadings survey taking place at Waterloo?
I've used the drain a couple of times lately, and every time I go through Waterloo there is one of the station staff with a clip board making some form of notes?
I wonder if the putative reductions and this survey, if that is what it is could be related?

If so then the person manning the arrivals platform has to write down the train number and time of arrival on a clipboard every time a train comes in, and note that the cars were checked and doors closed. Been doing it for years, I don't actually know where the sheets get sent to or what they're used for as the cabin would book the trains too.

Ah; I'd not noticed that before - presumably it is some form of performance auditing faff - even though the WTTs shew snapshots.

An update: The work taking place this weekend is for drainage purposes. ;D Whether this is also the reason for closing on 6th and 7th February and 6th and 7th March as well, I don't know.
