The September 1964 Underground Guide has only through trains to the main District eastbound operating, with "Wimbleware" passengers having to change at Gloucester Rd to/from the Circle Line to HSK and points north. But in November 1972, the only service this branch had was "Wimblewares". When did Sunday service to/from Wimbledon on both the through trains and "Wimblewares" commence?

Can't help with dates but I can certainly confirm that growing up on the Wimbledon branch we had only City services off-peak Mon-Fri (the Wimblewares being Putneywares at those times) and only Wimblewares on Sundays. As far as I remember it was only Saturdays that had through trains on both lines through the day. Platforms 3 and 4 at Wimbledon were used to stable stock, certainly on Sundays, as only platform 1 was needed during the day. A far cry from today when everything runs through all the time.

Even in the 80s, there was no District main service to Wilmbledon (or Putney) on Sundays.

**dives back into WTT mountain** Starting point: WTT 91 17/10/66 - chosen bacause it's the only hardback District and Picc and I can read it more easily than the other vintage District TTs in bed. Wimbledon services were largely Wimbledon - Upminster at this time, though in the shoulder of the evening peak there were a few Wimblewares, the first being Train 74, CP6 off Edgware Road at 1825, this then ran Wimblewares with departures from ERd at **changes tack - looks at Set Working book for this TT** In most cases there wasn't a dedicated Wimbleware service as such on weekdays, most sets seemed to do a couple of wanders down to Wimbledon, but didn't exclusively return to Edgware Road, some would go off to Mansion House and then return only as far as Putney Bridge, the same is true for Edgware Road originators. Sunday services for this line at this time were a mixture of Upminster/Dag E/Mansion House/Charing Cross originators. Dedicated Sunday Wimblewares, with captive sets appeared in WTT 96 (7/2/72); they may well have been earlier but I've not got (consults database on other machine) 1968 - 1970 (exclusive of the very beginning and end of the timeperiod), WTT 95 (30/11/70) seems to show a mix of originators for the Wimbledon services: but needs a very careful read to check the weekdays. There were services Edgware Road - Wimbledon on a Sunday in July 1932, also Wimbledon - Charing Cross reversers - seems that it was a Charred Whim service, though there were no captive sets specific to this working - all sets would take a trundle down beyond Putney Bridge and then head off elsewhere.
