Not quite the right place for this question, but since we don't have a City Widened Lines board...
Does anyone know when the WB Thameslink platform closed? For many years before the service was withdrawn all trains skipped this platform, apparently because the platforms could not be extended to accommodate 8-car trains.

Not sure, but I seem to think it was around about the time the change occurred from being a BR NSE TOU (i.e. shadow train operating unit) to full franchise. Either the step that made it a TOU or the step that went from TOU to TOC was when Barbican Down stops were eliminated. I might be confusing things, but there was once a TL timetable that was 6 TPH north of Farringdon - 2 fast, 2 semi-fast, 2 slow each hour. I think it was when that timetable started that the Barbican became Up only. There is no connection between the two events, it just happened at the same time. 1994 is about right for the TOU starting before it was a TOC. Incidentally, the Up platform was also too short ... it was only 7 cars long ... there was no SDO, there was a nrrow platform ledge. Amazingly I never saw anyone even open the doors there, never mind get off. Possibly I've added more confusion than fact -- Nick

There is no operational connection between the two events, it just happened at the same time becuase of (?) safety case (?) of the new operator. 1994 is about right for the TOU starting before it was a TOC.
