Hi all.
Went in to town today and on the first D Stock I got onto, the announcements were as follows:
The next station is Fulham Broadway (At FB) This is West Brompton. Change here for London Overground and National Rail services. *Grin on my face* (Btwn FB & WB) The next station is Earls Court. Change for the Piccadilly Line and District line services to other destinations. (At WB) Normal WB announcement.
Those ones made me laugh.
Second train I got on:
(Btwn Wimb & Wimb Pk EB) The next station is Southfields
Odd?
Also, when coming from EC to Southfields, before approaching Parsons Green, a new announcement (well for me anyway) was played. "The last two doors in the last car will not open. Please move to the front two doors." This was shown on the DMI as well.
Why was this played? What was happening at PG today?
Thanks

There is building work currently gonng on at the rear end of the WB platform at Parsons Green with hoardings in place. The platform is effectivly a few feet shorter and drivers have been told to cut out the rear doors and use the DVA to inform passengers,

With regard to the first train - if I were a betting man I'd say you got on it at Parsons Green, and the train had just come out of the sidings..... For some reason the DVA is always out of sync in that scenario

For some reason the DVA is always out of sync in that scenario Colin Is that always the case starting from PG sidings? There is a known issue that sometimes the T/Op sets the Start Station after having just left that station. This confuses the CIS but it should quickly correct when it gets GPS data, which should be quick at PG as long as it got it before the short tunnel near Fulham Bdy. I may be looking at the system again soon for a ELL script update and wondered if there's a real anomaly. t697

Next change will be for ELL re-opening as London Overground. So I suppose there will be lots of fun at Whitechapel; "Which way to the Overground?" "Downstairs" "Which way to the Underground?" "Upstairs!"

Colin Is that always the case starting from PG sidings? Yes! I've tried setting it up in the sidings, whilst moving into the platform, and whilst actually berthed in the platform - it makes absolutely no difference. Every single time it will announce Earls Court just as you 'hit the platform' at West Brompton, though it does correctly announce West Brompton once fully berthed with the doors open (subject to the usual time delay between messages : . I usually use the option to set the station at West Brompton and that seems to sort it out.

I had the same problem at PG until I started setting up the DVA from the west end cab before changing ends, which seemed to cure it.

Take a lookat Barking as well especially westbound the DVA takes ages to start up I'm quite often ready to close the doors before the thing starts. The delay at Barking is deliberate - it allows for people changing from c2c and the fact that it is almost always very busy there. Obviously when you are on nights, the reason becomes a little redundant...

I fail to see why they would deliberately put a delay in the DVA starting at a station.... doors open passenger sits and waits and waits and waits.. "This is Barking" , passenger now gets off !
Doesn't make sense to me.

To clarify on Barking DVA: The D78 system has the door open and close alarms as 'messages' on the DVA triggered from the door open and close wires. The door alarms have higher priority than automatic speech announcements, for safety on the close alarm and so the open 'bing-bong' is done before the speech starts. At Barking EB there's a platform both sides so if you open one side then the other, the second one would override and cancel the automatic voice annoucement. Therefore at this station only, there is a deliberate 5 seconds delay, to give you time to open the second side. We had to do the same for all roads at Barking, we couldn't get it just for an EB through train. By the way, new S stock has the door alarms on a separate system so the delay at platforms both sides isn't needed.

I will still never never understand why when the D Stocks were refurbed the chimes/dva and tannoy were placed on the same thing. This has never been done before when trains have been refurbed. It is a pain if you get sick of the announcments and leave the handset off the hook with PA button pressed in, you loose the door closing chimes.. but equally if you do not set up the system you get the chimes but no front/side destination blind t697.. I understand the reasons now why it was programmed like this at barking, but the reality is 95% of the time the driver is closing the doors and chimes override the PA before it even gets through "This is Bar"
