Alstom are now owned by Siemens. No. They are completely separate companies, forming with Bombardier the 'big three' in the European train making business. But keeping track over their family trees is quite difficult... In fact, in a sense, Alstom own (part of) Siemens! Siemens' UK assets were seized by the UK government in 1914 - incidentally causing major headaches for the LBSCR's electrification programme. These assets were eventually acquired by AEI, along with Metropolitan-Vickers, BTH, and Hotpoint. In the 1960s GEC acquired AEI (along with English Electric, Marconi, Ruston & Hornsby, Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns, the Vulcan Foundry and several others). GEC's power generation and rail interests were merged with Alsthom in 1989 to become GEC-Alsthom - the "GEC" part of the name was dropped later. Around the same time GEC formed a short-lived joint venture with Siemens to acquire Plessey, which was later broken up and shared out between the two owners. GEC is not to be confused with its American namesake General Electric Bombardier products: 1992 stock, 09 stock, S stock, Turbostar (class 170/171), Electrostar (class 357, 375-377) Alstom products: 1995 stock, 1996 stock, Eurostar (class 373), Pendolino (class 395), Juniper (class 334, 458, 460), Coradia/Adalante (Class 175, 180) Siemens products: Class 333, 334, Desiro (Class 185, 350, 360, 444, 450)

To add to Norbitonflyer's list, the Class 395 Olympic Javelin trains are the product of Hitachi, a Japanese manufacturer who have not previously built any trains for the British network.
