At North Acton yesterday evening (Thursday), the driver made the usual announcement asking people to change if they were heading for West Acton or Ealing Broadway, and then said that the train was heading for "West Ruislip for Ickenham" the name that the station had when first served by the Central Line.
If the driver is known to anyone here, do pass on my thanks for the historical accuracy.

My Dad's late cousin lived in Ickenham, just about I suppose half-way between Ickenham and West Ruislip stations? It appears from my Dad as though when she was working in Bond Street she could elect to walk to either. I then gathered from another source that passengers walk between the stations as an informal overground interchange. is that correct?

It may be an informal interchange but I can't recall having seen it on official maps anywhere.
Interestingly, however, when the Met has been shut down for weekend engineering, West Ruislip is often included as a stop on the all-stations replacement bus service to and from Uxbridge.

Second cousin lived in a block of flats on (just off) the road up from the A40 and Ickenham station going north to Ruislip.

Tube Challenge....Visit every tube station in the shortest possible time ie: all in one day....what was the record? I seem to remember about 16hrs but that would've been before DLR,LO etc.

Conventionally, the DLR and LO are excluded (it's Tube/LU only) - it's a Record recognised by the Guinness World Records people, who have a set of rules for it. Obviously as the network has grown and contracted, the 'record' has had to be reset...
Somewhere I've come across a web site and Yahoo group with details (but don't have addresses to hand)...

And if you travel east, prior to arrival at Epping you may also hear "Passengers for North Weald, Blake Hall & Ongar stations should use local buses to complete their journey"
