I noticed that the light box screen at Upminster has gone.. are there plans to replace it with a dot matrix that gives the departure time, destination and platform of each train? Similar to that at Richmond for example...
or is that far far too much to expect ?

The one that was on the overbridge at the east end of the platforms?
It has been missing for a few weeks now - I'm led to believe it partially fell off and was consequently totally removed for safety's sake.
As to it being repaired or replaced, I'd imagine we can probably all guess the answer to that.....

Apparently there are plans to put monitors on the bridge.

The other PM peak there was a very confused looking group of punters faced with 3 trains in 3 platforms , trying to figure out which was going first (obviously off a London origin c2c train).
Doesn't the signaler have access to a platform tannoy?? Wouldn't you think they would make a few announcements in the peaks whist there is no information screen, especially when a c2c train arrives, advising which platform will leave first.... lets face it there hardly rushed off there feet in there !

Yes the Upminster signalman does have a PA. Some do make announcements.

mr happybunny why are so negative about the upgrade works as a whole. When u say far far to much to expect its like you thinking its all falling about and remember it proberly be nothing like richmond as its a completly different system to lul's.
The back of the old light box was broken and since you cannot get these anymore finding a replacement will be hard to get hold of

Notice that, it looks like the exact same one with a bit of fixing up to me !! Shame no dot matrix's or something to show destinations etc.

The passengers have something that work again don't they? They've done with dot matrix displays for all that time.

The light boxes have never been that great for passengers changing from eastbound c2c to westbound District (which is surprisingly common in the evening peak). You have to climb the stairs from platform 2/3 to see the indicators and then potentially have to go back to the same platform to catch the next train. That is unless the indicator has already changed to show the following departure from say platform 4, which you head for and then watch in horror as the train from platform 3 that you were standing next to only a moment ago departs!
