According to crossrail news crossrailnews.co.uk/nav/news.php?id=6165, Crossrail have awarded a design contract for the north side of Paddington station. I'm not too sure of the geography of the Bakerloo line station here but would there be any space for a platform to new-north-exit link? TIA Simon

I think Bakerloo station is in opposite part of Paddington from H&C one, so if Crossrail is near H&C I doubt it will link to Bakerloo.

It will be near the H&C platforms (and the mainline platforms) since it's coming from Ealing/Acton direction. So most likely not.

Where are the Bakerloo Line platforms in relation to the streets above?

I think they're under the mainline station, beneath the concourse/concourse end of platforms 9-12 area of the station.

CrossRail will definitely impact the Bakerloo line or the passageway leading to it from the lawn ticket hall if the original plans are followed. I did the CrossRail enabling works surveys at Paddington, they were chiefly centred on the lawn ticket hall and the route to the Bakerloo with a small impact on one side (mainline station side) of the District and Circle platforms which included the services in the platform invert and on the staircase to street. My recollection is that I spent five weeks at Paddington with my team of Comms, Electrical and Drainage surveyors just before Christmas 1994, it being the first of the LUL CrossRail sites that I surveyed, I also surveyed the old parcel subway beneath the mainline platforms but found no LUL assets in it. Of course since I did the surveys 15 years ago things could well have altered, for instance the lawn ticket hall was given a makeover two or three years after I did the surveys and the information I provided was used to divert comms, electrical, HVAC and other services in the area.

Is it possible to buy plans for the entire line of Crossrail, that would be interesting to see all the modifications and demolitons.

Wasn't this the reason the Brunel statue was moved a while back?

The 'Crossrail Bulletin' has some further information : www.crossrail.co.uk/get_asset/5482/0/0/0/0/0/1Paddington work starts WORK is starting at Paddington, which will transform this gateway into London. This includes major restoration of part of the station roof, start of work for Crossrail, and refurbishment of the Hammersmith and City (H&C) line station. Network Rail has already begun restoration work on the section of the Edwardian roof above platforms nine to 12. This involves repairing the metalwork and replacing the glass, letting light flood back in for a lighter, brighter station. As a result of the Crossrail works, Paddington will also benefit from a modern, step-free entrance on the canal side, with access to the new taxi facility which will be relocated to between the main line station and the canal. The H&C station will also be completely refurbished to include a new station entrance from the Paddington Basin, with a bigger station concourse, including a new ticket office and ticket gates. There will also be step-free access to the mainline and H&C line from the new taxi rank. To find out more about the planned improvements visit an exhibition on the concourse at Paddington station : 23/24 Sept from 8am to 8.30pm, 25 Sept 8am to 6pm, 26 Sept 10am - 2pm. This URL www.crossrail.co.uk/get_asset/4768/0/0/0/0/0/1 shows the lay of the land at Paddington with the Bakerloo line shown in relation to the main station (also shown is the post office railway). So I guess a link could, in theory, be provided but I don't think it is currently planned. Simon

The Crossrail line dives under the GWML from the north side the Paddington side of Royal Oak station the run under Eastbourne Terrace, in cut n cover, where the Crossrail platforms will be located.
When the Lawn was redeveloped as part of Heathrow Express (HEX) piling was done in the south corner (Sainsburys main ticket office area) to allow for the Crossrail concourse and ticket hall, and I believe connecting passage to the existing Circle Line ticket hall concourse, to be excavated without disturbing the Lawn.
Crossing Paddington main station concourse is difficult due to the (now redundant) HEX baggage tunnel which runs under platform 6 & 7 under the Lawn rising up under where Boots is now.
The refurbishment of the "Milk Dock" the decking above platform 12, is to allow for the move of the taxi rank from Eastboure Terrace in readiness for the cut n cover construction of the Crossrail station.
