I have just been advised that in the imminent future 7008, 17008 and 8008 will have the external stickers removed, thus returning it to an aluminium finish. It will, however, retain its red door.
It is expected to depart to Derby in about mid December and will then not see the light of day again until probably the end of May 2008.
So keep your eyes peeled.
I will try to update when the changes have taken place.

I hate this train, it looks hideous, both inside and out. I for one will be glad to see it sent away for refurb.

I agree with Jim - it drives poorly - especially the brakes, and as for the white cab..............

Think there's a division here between the T/O's and enthusiasts... as an enthusiast I like the unit because its non standard (a tarted up refurb prototype), however its obvious that its anyting but the favourite of staff...

I have only ever managed to get this unit 5 times and 3 of them were short trips for Whitechapel shutdown weekends.
I like it because of it's novelty value, the white cab is very reflective if you drive with the cab light on, but I tend to hang my fleece / jacket or coat on the hook behind me and that blocks the reflections just where you need them blocked !
On the plus side, this unit is FAST !!! (Brakes aren't up to much though !)

Change of plan it seems, I have been advised!
I'm now told that the vinyls will reamin until it goes away - date to be advised to me shortly I hope.

Personally I did think the idea of removing the vinyls for a month or so until it goes away for refurb was a bit pointless, but I suppose the idea was that Bomardier will charge more for removing them.

Well, unit 7008 finally departed Ealing Common by road just before 11am this morning.
The trailer carrying 7008 itself suffered a small steering failure after it left Museum Way, causing an extra delay to the traffic in the area!

I have seen the three car unit today in Derby, it is uncoupled and the decals on the motor car (7008) have almost entirely been removed. 7008 is almost entirely back in aluminium finish except for a fully red cab front, it looks rather odd!
