Large section about the new trains for the Met, and also many other articles about London Underground in this months Modern Railways from page 47 onwards.
I must say i think the new trains look good, however i do hope they keep A60 stock for preservation.

Is that actually set in stone that two units would be kept? I believe on another thread prjb commented that this wasnt the case?

Called me stupid but shouldn't the NRM in York/Shildon preserve it as it is a long lasting work horse of the UK rail system?

Unfortunately, it seems that "Cravens Railway Carriage and Wagon Company Limited" were absorbed into Metro-Cammell in 1966- and they have since been swallowed into Alstom! I'm assuming Metman is refering to Cravens Heritage Trains, the preservation group. I don't know if they would be interested as the A60s are not in original unrefurbished condition.

The 1960 stock isn't in its original condition though. I think the 1960 stock looks horrible in red. They should be in silver as they were originally delivered. I would hope that a A60 set would be returned to its original condition if several were preserved!

Good point; but I'd prefer an 8 car in refurb then a DM returned to original

LU move customers from A to B, they used to do it via 'C'.

I have talked to the LT Museum and they are now no longer keeping any 'A' Stock units. Instead they have been pursuaded by (ahem!) certain parties to preserve two units of 'C' Stock which will allow them to run a four car set. The Museum have taken this decision based on the fact that 'C' Stock are more unique than an 'A' Stock in terms of preservation, as they already have a unit of 38ts which is similar in terms of controls etc.
Sorry about that guys!

You should've kept it longer than 2 minutes But saving 4 cars of C and 4 cars of A wouldnt be too bad Wouldnt mind if they saved 3 cars of D either

I saw another complete S Stock train in the Bombardier yard yesterday (6/9/09) - it's only when you see them from a distance that you realise just how long they are!
How many S Stock trains (including this one) have been completed so far; are they all sent to Old Dalby for testing?

You should've kept it longer than 2 minutes Surely even prjb knows that such a risk is not worth taking What kind of costs are preservationists looking at roughly, assuming secure accomodation can be found, for purchase of the As, Cs or even Ds?

If someone is quick there is currently a spare road in the depot as the Q Stock has moved across the way to Acton Works. I'm not sure where we'd put the Q Stock then though.

The one you saw might have been the other pre-production train, that was being tested at Derby.

The last station (NWP) to have the signalling immunised by Westinghouse happens this weekend so as soon as these trains are ready they should be able to go into trial running from Wembley to Watford.

I would have to guess it. Northwood/Uxbridge-Wembley is shut this weekend.

Train 2 is at Old Dalby on test and will be the first train to arrive in London, Train 1 is at Derby on test currently and will be the second train to arrive in London. Train 3 is in production at Derby and will be the first train to enter passenger service. All trains (well, definitely the first 25) will go via Old Dalby before going to London in order to complete 1000km mileage accumulation.

I would have to guess it. Northwood/Uxbridge-Wembley is shut this weekend. That probably means that all Piccies on the Uxbridge branch will go all the way to UXB--no Rayners reversers.
