Can somebody give an answer please. We have been confused while waiting at Finchley Rd to get to Pinner-approx time 17.30 weekdays. I think I am correct in stating that all Watford Semi-Fast trains by- pass Wembley and stop at Harrow on Hill, then N.Harrow,Pinner and so on. On Monday last, there was first an Amersham SF.The sign was not much help as it kept on flitting between different trains and was difficult to read as messages were overlapping and scrolling too fast..I asked the platform contoller with the white ''table tennis bat'' if it stopped at Pinner and he didn't know!! so I waited for the next Watford SF to make sure I was not swept away into the wilds of Buckinghamshire. On Wednesday last at approx the same time my wife was also at Finchey Rd, got on an Amersham SF and first stop was H on H then usual stops to Pinner. This time all announcements and PA's were clear all long the line. Would much appreciate the experts definitive answer-under normal operations do both Watford and Amersham SF's stop at Pinner? Thanks

Ahh yes, but last time he was travelling from Baker Street. We are moving up the line, so maybe in another 4 months he will have made it to Harrow ;D

Ok Ok.No need for the sarcasm.I'm a Londoner born and bred, but the workings of the Underground are still a source of mystery, wonderment and downright frustration at times, although when everything is working it's a great system, apart from the extortionate fares.Buts that another subject. Thanks anyway for the answers.Harrow here we come.

the workings of the Underground are still a source of mystery, wonderment and downright frustration at times, They are even to those of us who claim to be "in control" ;D ;D Joking (and sarcasm) aside, it can be confusing, and the time of day you mention does contain the odd one or two "non-standard" trips heading northbound - that Amersham Semi-Fast is one of them. The rule to remember is that all Watford trains have to use the local lines between Harrow and Moor Park, and unless things are really pear-shaped, will always call at those local-line stations. Amersham services on the whole are the "express trains" and although they can run on the local or fast lines from Harrow, they will rarely stop at the local-line stations.

Thanks for that.We are now enlightened and I still am amazed at the way the system runs especially at peak times when the trains must be running nose to tail almost at some points on the lines.

They are - even on the Met. Which is often why a small event can so easily snowball and affect the whole line. It's up to us behind the scenes then to try and balance everything out so the pain is minimised for everyone. Every train has its own path, and it's own "space" on the line. An extra train somewhere, or a late-running train elsewhere can be all that's needed to tip the balance.
Anyway, enough trumpet-blowing, glad you are now enlightened ;D
