In the Ian Allan London Transport ABC of vehicles for 1944 (covering trains, trams, trolleybuses and buses) there is a little note in the section on the MET Electric locos. It states next to the entry for No12 'Sarah Siddons' that the loco was formerly named 'Nuremburg'. This is the only referance I ever seen of this in any history of the MET locos. Do any of you know anything more on this? The reason for changing the name are obvious considering the date but do any pictures exist of No12 carrying the name 'Nuremburg'?

The late Ken Benest notes this in his book on the locos and says there is no evidence to substantiate it.

There is photographic evidence of Frank Pick and Lord Ashfield, together with uniformed Nazi big-wigs, including Hitler, attending a concert in Nuremburg to celebrate 100 years of German railways in 1935, and this pic was shown at one of the Museum's evening talks recently. Could it have been the intention to rename a Met loco "Nuremburg" in tribute, albeit later cancelled once the true nature of the regime became apparent?
