Is this weekend the first time that Met trains have reversed at Rayners Lane under these circumstances? I seem to recall that once before Uxbridge-bound trains would reverse at HOTH, leaving Piccies to reverse at either Rayners or South Harrow. I understand that Piccies are reversing @ South Harrow this weekend.

No no, we have had this situation a few years ago with all trains terminating at Rayners.

I like the fact the rail replacement bus service is complimentary. When did that start?

Are all the Mets reversing in the siding? On the TFL website I've seen "between Eastcote and Rayners Lane" to describe many up services during these works.

Why can the Piccs not run to Rayners too ? Or are they doing something between S.Harrow and the Jct ?

I think the Metropolitan trains are terminating in the (westbound)platform and then wrong road reversing back to West Harrow. Not sure an A stock can fit in Rayners Siding - tight fit if it can. The picc trains would not be able to reverse at the same time therefore, even using the siding.

Even if they could reverse in the siding, I expect it would be a capacity issue - we usually seem to have one Rayners Lane train going back east just as the other one pulls in ready to reverse - there is a reasonable amount of stand time in the siding but, if you tried to slot in our Uxbridge trains *and* all the Met ones, it would be chaos or a very reduced service!

Is it 6tph on both branches? Its a shame the met northbound only has a trailing crossover; else it could be one platform per line, with the excess reversed at South Harrow for the picc and put in the siding for th met.

Yes, both services have 6tph. Both lines also have trailing crossovers. I guess its easier to have the picc terminate at Sth Harrow as undergroundgal says it would get very busy!

Indeed. I'm looking at Quail 5 as I type! There would be four options though to reverse the 12 tph. South Harrow, either platform at Rayners seperate, or both platforms via the siding. Surely this would provide enough capacity?

either platform at Rayners?
You can only reverse off platform 1 at Rayners West to East.
That is why the Piccs reverse at S Harrow
Rayners can't handle 12 tph reversing

They should have reverse 3tph on each line, the other 3tph mets reverse @ Harrow, Piccs at S.Harrow. That way each line gets a service... and that vital connection between Picc and Met line is kept !! Makes too much sense I guess, get on the bus !

Mmm. 3tph. A 20-minute service. How is that really keeping up a vital connection?
Much simpler for everyone to understand that the service was operating as it was all day, rather than giving false hopes to those on every 2nd Picc and Met train that they were going through, only to be turfed off a station or two before.
At the end of the day, both Met and Picc simply could not be accomodated at Rayners Lane. Therefore the lesser evil of the 2 was decided upon.
