Just recalling that the Victoria Line has a new WTT from 26 July (although the line isn't operating on that day!) which is supposed to tie in with the train crew 'depot' opening at Brixton, has reminded me that the proposed train crew depot at Harrow-on-the-Hill has gone very quiet recently.
Is it still likely to happen, or has it died a death?

Where is the depot at Brixton? At platform level, in the station somewhere or elsewhere?

Where is the depot at Brixton? At platform level, in the station somewhere or elsewhere? I think it's round the back. The roof is made of grass and it's meant to be eco friendly.

Like so many things, it has probably taken a back seat due to funding issues.

Like so many things, it has probably taken a back seat due to funding issues. No problem with the funding, the problem is getting staff to work there. A lot of T/Ops don't want to go there and the unions are insisting that no one is forced into a move. Likewise, the DMT's are also having a stand off with the line management. It seems that some are being told to go to Harrow while newer DMT's to the line are being told they will stay at Neasden or Ricky! Some have put in for Harrow, but overall I don't think many want to move and by all accounts the line management are not dealing with the proposed movement of staff very well!

Ask senior management where the staff car park will be at Harrow.

Ask senior management where the staff car park will be at Harrow. Unfortunately, LU do not have to provide car parking, and I believe that they actually planned to do away with some of the staff car parks under some crazy TfL idea 5 or 6 years ago. They soon realised the problems and changed their minds, but the chances of a staff car park for T/Ops at Harrow are non existent, which is out of order when you have staff booking on and off at extreme times of the day. Furthermore, I believe no arrangements have been made for staff parking at Harrow when the line is shut south of Harrow over the coming weekends. I am led to believe that this was "overlooked" by the person responsible and that line management are urgently trying to sort out parking for train crews who book on at Harrow.

There are more than just a handful of drivers who live outside London and drive to work, just because it's convenient. If those drivers are forced to take public transport, with the added cost, are you surprised that there is ill feeling? The main people who run the network, ie, the drivers, don't you think you must put their requirements as a priority?

As I said, due to the extreme start and finish times of the shifts worked, there should be ample parking. However, and someone may correct me, I believe Edgware Road only has a handful of parking spaces for about 150 T/Ops. What I don't like, is the way that it has just been decided that a crew depot will open at Harrow, without anyone really being consulted. The T/Ops, managers and unions aren't happy about the lack of consultation with them, and I can so no benefit to the service by opening a crew depot there. Now, if someone had suggested reopening Uxbridge..........

Some existing depots have no parking at all, Earl's Court is one that springs to mind.

The problem may be not only a cost problem, but a problem of availability of public (or staff) transport at certains times of the night at which LU staff start (of finish) working...

A recent TFL internal questionaire regarding staff travel was so skewed/biased as to be unbelievable. It was all about walking, cycling and night buses, plus more changing rooms, shower and bike storage facilities; whilst there was no option of selecting extra staff car parks, or door-to-door staff taxis as a choice, except in the "any other comments" section right at the end.
Frankly, without dedicated, separate, cycle lines as on the continent (and as we had in the UK on 1930s arterial roads before these were widened for more cars) I consider travelling by bike in London as akin to having a death wish. And as for night buses, I can't think of a more unpleasant, intimidating, form of transport; the worst possible start or finish to a working day!

Well many of those displaced from Parsons Green to Earls Court would have parked in Wimbledon BR depot until SWT pulled the plug upon privitisation, or in the streets around PG until Hammersmith Council brought Controlled Parking Zones. There then followed several years of special taxis being booked door-to-door from all extremities of south London before management finally regained control of the situation. Staff parking, a very touchy subject! (OK, going off-topic now. Sorry!)

I don't think there is any happy drivers at Earls Court... most are off are off sick or stood down so it seems. The rest are depressed because they have to run for the former whenever they are spare (along with us Acton & Barking lot and even this last 7 days the Upminster lot).

I was sent from Upminster to Earls Court to do a rounder on train 151 a while back.

The other sticking point is a canteen, there is so much inconsistent information regarding whether there will be one at Harrow.

The other sticking point is a canteen, there is so much inconsistent information regarding whether there will be one at Harrow. As I understood it, all meal reliefs would still be at Wembley. Harrow would just be used for start/finish of duties and nothing else. That may have changed, but like you say, the information is very inconsistent.

The Chinese Whispers I heard was that the Harrow depot thing was an attempt to draw an absolute demarcation line between the Met and the Jubbly so that the two separate business units would be just that - completely separate. Even during meal reliefs.

Even during meal reliefs. No. It's because Neasden is above the optimum size of 150 T/Ops, and there is no room to expand either Wembley or Neasden, so a new location was required, and Harrow was the result. The 150 figure is a yardstick dreamed up by S&SD, I've no idea of the science behind how the figure of 150 was arrived upon.

The 150 figure is a yardstick dreamed up by S&SD I think that quote sums up most of what is wrong on LU today. Another dream by S&SD, that's about all they ever do! A visit to the real world may enlighten them!

Harrow TCD is going ahead. A TOM has been allocated as well as the DMTs for the new depot. I've also seen the architects plans for the building. Whether any work has started in the building is another matter.
Regarding the canteen, I think there was a plan to utilise one of the vacant shop units. Parking is a problem - for all of us.
Let's see what transpires over the next few months !!
