Can a 96TS Mk2 unit run with a Mk1 unit in service? I've never seen a train running with one unit of each, and if 96TS Mk2s did run with Mk1s, it would be unusual to see to see a train running with two Mk2 units, as there are only 4 trains of Mk2 96TS. Or is it that they could run with Mk1s, but they don't for some reason?

Its the same technology, so yeah, they are fully compatable. I've enver paid much attention to the Jub units formation; but its becoming increasingly common on the tube to treat trains as block formation. Perhaps this is why they stay in the same 7 car set? I'm sure 20years down the line it wont matter atall however!

Was on the 96 earlier today! I'm also sure they can run together.

Is Mk1 and Mk2 their official designation? Like the 1972 stock?
