In two publications that I have there is a picture of what purports to be a District Line four-wheel brake third coach which is, according the one book, 'in its preserved state'. It s a four-compartment vehicle with District Line lettering and the number 8. The picture dates form the 1920s. Does anyone know what happened to this vehicle and if it is still with us? Thanks.
Postscript;- What I meant to say was four compartments plus a guards compartment.

There's a preserved DR 3rd compartment coach in service on the K&ESR if that's any help.

The link says all you need to know about the K&ESR vehicle. it is a fine example of what preservation can achieve. Thanks for that. It is not the same vehicle though. 'No8' has smaller compartments whereas the K&ESR one is clearly first class in origin. There is an excellent picture in 'Steam To Silver' which shows the difference well. The picture of 'No8' is also in that fine publication.
In the background of the picture of 'No8', an E stock vehicle can clearly be seen. This tends to confirm the date of the picture as stated above and that the vehicle has been restored and is not merely ex-works ready for service. E stock was not introduced until 9 years after steam finished on the District.
There is a four-wheel coach body on a flat wagon in the LT Museum Depot at Acton but this is also an all-first. It would appear from the lack of information about it that 'No8' has joined that collection of former preserved items in the sky......
