Looking at the tfl website now, due to a signal failure at Farringdon, the Hammersmith & City is suspended between Liverpool Street and Barking, with severe delays on the rest of the line, due to a signal failure at Farringdon. Does anyone know why it has been suspended Liverpool Street to Barking, rather than say, Moorgate to Kings Cross?

Multiple signals were failing on the eastbound between King's Cross and Farringdon. As a result the service was greatly reduced to prevent trains being stuck for long periods between stations.
The Outer-Rail circle was suspended, along with the Met line between Baker Street and Aldgate. Most of the H&C continued to run, but with late-running incurred through the failure area, we killed two birds with one stone - we served Aldgate with trains, and managed to recoup some recovery time (albeit only few minutes).
Some trains did go through to Whitechapel, and a few went through to Barking later in the evening to stable in the sidings there. This was not advertised as the service was nowhere near reliable enough.
The service was advertised as suspended "Liverpool Street" to Whitechapel, as "officially" that was the extent of suspension on the H&C. There could have been a little more information handed out that the service was revised and operating between Hammersmith and Aldgate, but this was not done (don't blame me - I'm not in control of that part ;D.)
We didn't suspend between Kings Cross and Moorgate as it was possible (with some delay) to get trains through on the eastbound. This would also have left a large chunk of our line "missing" in the middle, with less alternatives. At least from Aldgate, both Tower Hill and Aldgate East are short walks, and alternative means of transport are closer to hand.
As the evening progressed, I had the added headache of thousands of Take That fans wanting to reach central London, with very little scope of being able to "extend" Met trains into the city without them becoming stuck for long periods between stations.
Many trains lost upwards of 20 minutes simply travelling between Edgware Road and Moorgate, and the patience of station and in particular train staff is to be commended - many trains were held in platforms for 5-10 minutes until the next station became clear and they could be moved up.
Last trains ran up to 30 late. Then again, that's nothing compared to the last train from Amersham to Rickmansworth, which was close on 80 minutes late ;D
It hasn't been a good week this week ;D
