From the Circles To Go thread 21146 asked: I should be getting some information soon on when the Wimblewares were extended to Aldgate - OK it was only on a Saturday in 1982 - but it will make for some interesting reading, comparing it to the Circle and Met. No 2 services of the era. I wonder if this was when I took this? - www.flickr.com/photos/24772733@N05/2740938023/I've got the TTN in front of me - I've got to accession it and several other ones[1] into the database of much complication - but it certainly looks like you did take that photo on 29/5/82. At a first glance every other Wimbleware was extended to Aldgate after 1009 until 2131, and 62 was one of those trains. I'll do a stockworking sheet later on, I've also got to dig out District WTT 111 which has the rest of the service in. [1] Victoria WTT 2 - extension and service rehearsal to Warren St. and Bakerloo WTT 4 - back to Harrow&W MF peaks: I've been after these two for years ;D. I'm not a completist, but I think I've now got every single Victoria WTT since opening!

So there we have it; if it was this day that you took the photograph, you would (on paper) have had three opportunities to do it: 1309, 1609 or 1859½. I suspect 1859½ is the most plausible from the length of the shadows.

Districts on the Edgware Road service were also extended to Aldgate on the afternoon before a bank holiday weekend (e.g. Thursday before Good Friday).
These ceased in the early-1960s (I have a date of it somewhere but it needs digging out).
Can anyone help, please, as to (1) when this practice began and (2) why particularly on a day before a bank holiday weekend?

(2) return shopping traffic, strengthening for those making an early getaway or a very faint echo of the GWR <spit> holiday service strengthening into the City prior to the Bank Holiday?
