Re: R A T, and the leaf fall season. The R A T train from last year, 5066 - 6036 - 6067 - 5067, was deformed last week. It was due to run again this year, but the unit is overdue for its door overhaul, so its been put back as the standard double ender.
Happily we had confirmed that the rat will run until 2015, no matter how many s stock are around.
The lucky unit is de- icer AVI train 5234 6234D 6235 5235.
LUL have in the past kept one old train / unit ( whatever they had fit to run) back for leaf fall work and the same will apply again.
;D

What does AVI mean? Will 6036 replace trailer 6234 or 6235, or will the RAT run as 5-car again? Will 5234 be used as the RAT from this year, or will it stay as a normal unit until the rest of the A stock is replaced?

All the special faxes detailing the train when it runs say 'Audio Visual' - as far as I remember. Whatever the case is, I'm so glad that at least some A stock trains will be around for a bit. I for one really don't want S stock but sadly no-one can do anything about it now.

Its is very unlikey to run again in passenger service, unless there is a major problem with sister units.

If they keep 5 cars (i.e. 4-car unit plus RAT trailer) could this be operated for the occasional railtour? (I'm assuming that if the RAT trailer was permantly formed within the set H&S rules would prevent passengers being carried in case they had to pass though the Sandite car in emergency.) Indeed, how about a repaint into 'silver' with Train Red car numbers and fleetnames? Ah well, dream on...

Well the good news is that when it is withdrawn in 2015 it will probably be preserved! I'm gonna start saving now! Don't tell the misses!

And isn't it used in passenger service anyway when it replaces the Chesham branch service?

Thats just one car whose doors are opperated by the butterfly cock. In addition an additional staff member rides on the carriage, and its prefered to do it only at quiet times.

I only travelled on 5235 on the 28th May. A requiem to Heinz 57 No.2 as a passenger going vehicle. I will say the driver was going so hard on the brakes, they started to smoke. No matter 5173's are spare.

I see the RAT, and other A Stock units, have new windscreen wipers fitted. Rather late in the day modification.

Ah I wonder if the RAT was graffitied whilst out-stabled from Neasden? And has the sh** been cleaned off the cab of 5062 yet?
