A quick question. The old decorative Leslie Green style tiling around the station ticket office windows has an IN and OUT motiff either side of the window. What was it's original purpose?
I noticed this at Edgware Road (Bakerloo) the other day.

Early form of queue control, now done by 'Tensa' barriers

No, it meant you approached from the right.

You approached the ticked window from the side labelled "IN" and left from the side labelled "OUT". So there were not people trying to form queues on both sides of the ticket window.

Thanks. Did it work well? Edgware Road has three ticket windows quite close to each other. I can imagine at busy times people would be walking into each other but I suppose it was in another day and age.
