On the way home from Rickmansworth today, I was on the Slow Aldgate that pulled in to Harrow the same time as Sarah Siddons did on Return Journey 4. I managed to sprint across the platform! When the train stopped at Preston Road, I noticed that the display said for the other direction 'Uxbridge - All Stations'. However, as that train came in, the destination blind clearly stated 'Watford'. What happened?

Maybe the train was diverted to Watford, but the DMI wasn't changed, or it was diverted to Uxbridge and the driver didn't change the blind. Or it might have just been that the DMI wasn't working properly. Why does that DMI show 'Uxbridge - All stations', as any train stopping there is an all stations train?

Preston Road & Northwick Park are notorious for having the wrong destinations displayed for the northbound.

The NB DMI's At Preston Road from my Experience always show the train in front at the top of the list

It's interesting that the above points are made, as the feed comes directly from the signalling computers at Baker Street which in itself is en-route to the signal cabin at Harrow - and neither location suffers hugely from wrong indications in that direction.
However, what is true is that a destination change made after the stop at Wembley Park, will not be altered on the DMIs until Harrow.
Of course I am in no way saying the errors don't exist, it's just that because the DMIs do not feed the signalling (it's the other way around) it is only the station staff and customers which notice. Interesting that we were not aware of it.

I'd like to extend this to Harrow-on-the-Hill. Finally a new or repaired board has returned to platform 4. I noticed many of the Watford trains are leaving from plat 4. Is there a points problem south of Harrow?

Is there a points problem south of Harrow? Yes and they are secured one way only, my trainee and me had a bit of headache the other day with inter-peak trains coming in to reverse via the sidings and holding up passenger services
