This question isnt just about the last few years of service but from the time through-workings ceased. Generally was the service run all day everyday, or was it limited in hours or days of opperation? Many thanks

Alan A Jackson rather tongue in cheek says the service ran to Sth Acton on the "there and back while the kettle boils" headway principle.....

It was called "The tea run"!
I think? It ran weekdays only, at time of closure anyway. [someone correct me if I am wrong.

Through workings ceased off the Sth Acton line on the 8th Feb 1932 as a result of Picc line trains reaching Hounslow West - the workings were South Harrow - Sth Acton at 20 min intervals ......
From 1913 the service was South Acton - Acton Town - Hounslow from 0555 to 1240am at 20 min intervals...
The line was singled from 1932 - and the shuttle - referred to as "the Pony" ran from 0600 to about midnight at 10 min intervals - squeezed to 7 min at peak times.Stock was 2 "G" type single cars whoch survived in light of falling patronage of no more than 6 passengers a train till withdrawal at midnight on Sat 28th February 1959.
Must have been more tedious than Olympia - High St Ken !
And it was DOO - (Sorry OPO) - Labelled "Acton Town Non Stop and South Acton all stns " !!!!

It seems very odd that such an high frequency was maintained on such a low-patronised line; and then for 18 hours a day; And Then during saturdays too!
If by some bizzare chance it had survived to this day surely it wouldnt have such a high service? Maybe M-F peaks every 10 mins...

For a short period of time, An every 20-min all day frequency was tried out on the Epping - Ongar branch service... However, although popular at first, it ended up with more staff on the entire branch than passengers!

Whilst browsing through the second-hand bookstall, I came across Alan Jackson’s article in the December 1958 issue of The Railway Magazine. For those interested the scanned pages can be viewed here. As a bonus, the Aldwych shuttle, scheduled to be closed along with the South Acton branch also features.
