Needed to get from Waterloo to Liverpool Street quickly last night. W&C would have been ideal BUT
Looking at the dreaded map while on the train heading for Waterloo, all I get is 'Mondays - Fridays 0615-2148.'
What does that mean exactly?
The wheels stop turning at 21:48? The last departure is at 21:48 from both stations simultaneously? The last departure is 21:48 from Bank and therefore at around 21:42 from Waterloo?
I've complained about information pollution on the map before, but this is a classic case of poorly thought through communication.
I decided that the best alternative was Jubilee/Northern/Met, and I couldn't risk taking shortest route to W&C, finding it closed, and having to take a long route to the Jubilee, so went straight for the Jubilee and caught my train with five minutes to spare.
Which leads to my supplementary question:
This early finish dates from BR days, and seems to be a bit of an anachronism, these days just about all BR suburban lines get last departures after 23:00 (how times have changed), perhaps LUL should pilot a later finish and see whether there is sufficient demand.

Last train off Bank is 2148 Bank platform 7 MWO; 2148 platform 8 MWX (1831 Sats) arriving 2151½ if coming from plat. 7 or 2152 if coming from plat. 8.
Other direction the last trains off Waterloo are 2141 arr Bank 2145 or 2145½, depending which day it is (Sats last WB is 1837½).

Thought so, wouldn't kill them to be a little bit more helpful.

Agreed. I often think that the W&C is a bit under utilised.

I was surprised you went via London Bridge and Moorgate, but sure enough Transport Direct sends you that way (19 minutes, apparently) rather than via LB and Bank - which is what I would have done.
TfL's own routefinder sends you to London Bridge and then by bus!
I assume staying on to Stratford and picking up the GE line train ther wasn't an option then?

I couldn't remember just how bad Bank Northern to Central is, but Moorgate Northern to Met is really really easy, plus there are usually lots of trains even at night. Exiting the Met EB at Liverpool Street is easier than exiting the Central. I was doing well for time so far, and decided Moorgate was worth the gamble. In the event of a disaster on the Met, I could even run from Moorgate.
I hate picking up trains at Stratford, I can't buy much in the way of food, and can't choose my seat. They are very civilised at Liverpool Street and always put up trains as soon as they are sure where they are going to go. None of this queueing up while the train sits there, followed by a scrum five minutes before it leaves.
Plus, if I missed the train at Stratford, I would have either had to have sat there for an hour, or doubled back anyway.
Decisions decisions.
