As I passed through Wood Lane station today I noticed an SA give the right to a WB driver. I looked on the EB there was a SA similarly in place to give the right I assumed on that platform too. Does this mean the OPO screens are STILL not working If so, this is unbelievable. The station has been open for almost seven months now. I could have wired up an opo solution in that time! Any idiot could! What is going on ??

The OPO monitors that were installed at Wood Lane were not of an Approved type, so Im told, not so much the fact they arent working, they do work and quite well at that, they have been disconnected because they are awaiting approval from LUL for the type to allow them to be brought into use.... This is the word that I am being told, but how long it will take is another matter!

Then use it!! haha I mean i'm sure if there's some issue with them not being bright enough, it would be one thing. It doesn't sound like that is the case here though. ALLLL of that aside. How in the hell did they get installed in the first place then?

Unfortunately, the people we get to "project manage" these things are usually way out of their depth and don't think about such things. It also appears not to have been followed up too well when the problem was first realised as any decent manager would have had the non compliant monitors ripped out and standard ones installed. Looks like no one is prepared to take the responsibility for either!

Am I right in thinking that the station was delivered by the Westfield people? Would they just act on what LUL standards were around at the time?

Problem is, they didn't even meet our standards, if it was them!

LU move customers from A to B, they used to do it via 'C'.

Guys, it's got nothing to do with the type of screens or the person project managing the installation and commissioning. The problem is with the format in which the images are displayed. The images are compliant with a new standard for OPO CCTV and as such the Rep's are, quite rightly, asking why they are not compliant with the existing standard. They are then told the system is compliant with the new standard and so they ask to see this new standard. They are then told it is not issued yet and so they ask why they are not compliant with the existing standard, they are then told... You get the picture!! Essentially, the new standard seeks to standardise the way the images are laid out and presented and has had lots of Human Factors work thrown at it to get it right. The new standard also seeks to clarify what size and resolution the images being displayed actually need to be and for the first time specifies a specific target that must be detected as a minimum. As this is the first time we have ever done this the standard is taking longer than anticipated to get through the system and issued for use. The system on 'S' Stock is fully compliant with the new standard and as such is very good. This however threw up another problem. The Rep's felt that perhaps LU were trying to get the 'S' Stock system agreed through the back door without consulting them by having Wood Lane approved and then saying "well, it's the same on the new trains so we don't need to consult any further". This isn't the case but you can see where they were coming from. So: New system compliant with new, but non issued, standard and Rep's worried about agreeing Wood Lane and then getting the new system on 'S' without any further consultation. Hope that has cleared that up!!

I was going to try to reply to this thread but I don't think there's anything I can add to that.
Except of course that in typical LU tradition, they delivered the little boxes (GLAPs?) for the SAs to sit in just in time for summer after they've spent the whole winter freezing their ******** off on the platforms!

Just some observations. The imaging on Wood Lane OPO CCTV system is compliant with both old and new standards. The old standard was mainly silent on the way images are combined and presented, leading the variety of systems deployed on the Underground. The new standard sets out how the images are presented for all types and shapes of platforms, both in cab and on platform, based on the consensus from a lot of design, Human Factors and Operational input.
A decision was made to make Wood Lane compatible with the S Stock. (How could LU justify building one system and ripping it out and replacing it 2 years later?) The image presentation is different at Wood Lane from the rest of the OPO systems on the H&C, leading to issues over acceptance and training. I understand there was a lot of consultation, but obviously not enough for Wood Lane.
I also understand that all the information on the new standard and all the supporting documentation is now with the appropriate Reps.
Westfields delivered what they were asked to deliver. Sunlight was an issue in viewing the monitors which delayed the commissioning, requiring screens to be fitted. From a Project perspective, I understand the system was available for Operational use just before Christmas 2008.
The OPO CCTV images in cab on the new Victoria Line stock also follow the image layout in the new standard.

Out of interest, what is the new standard layout?

You mention that a decision was made to make Wood Lane compatible with the S Stock, but will the S Stock not have in-cab OPO's like most other modern stocks?

Presumably if in-cab and on-platform CCTV are both available (and until there are no C-stocks running on the branch then the on-platform will need to be maintained afaik) then it would be very confusing for S-stock operators if they showed images in a different format.
