I was going into London on a day off yesterday and was lucky enough to see a run reversing at Harrow platform 2! Sarah, the 4TC and the railfreight class 20 were present. Sarah was facing north. The trip must have then turned at Watford because at about 16.30 the train was seen in the southern reception road at Neasden with Sarah facing south. The train was trying to dodge A stocks pouring out for the evening peak!

The UNIT is havin its wheels turned on the wheel lathe on 106 road neasden depot. Sarah is on 105 i believe, and the class 20 uncoupled on 106.
BOTH SARAH AND THE CLASS 20 ARE TOO HEAVY FOR THE LATHE, so are both outside.

BOTH SARAH AND THE CLASS 20 ARE TOO HEAVY FOR THE LATHE, so are both outside. Their wheels were turning a little faster this afternoon. 3 or 4 Harrow-Amersham return trips, finishing up with an Amersham-Watford-Harrow-Ruislip Depot run about 1500ish - to turn the train around once again (Sarah now leads going south I believe from what I saw via the CCTV earlier in the afternoon). There was a (late altered) plan to let them visit Neasden depot, but the crew asked last minute to have it altered back to reversing at Harrow. Obviously didn't like it there ;D

Doesn't look like you got very good weather today? Glad I stayed in doing some revision for my GCSEs to be honest!

I must admit I gave it a miss too what with the predicted bad weather, and inevitable "planned engineering work" shutting down much of the Underground in east London, but all credit to those who organised and operated it.

... but all credit to those who organised and operated it. Absolutely - couldn't agree more... credit where credit is due! Thank you LU, the LT Museum & Metronet for investing in Sarah and for organising and running a superb tour. Also thank you all who worked on the excursions today - first class

I got drenched! Began just north of Rickmansworth for first trip. Thence to Chorleywood for return and long wait there for No 12 (I passed on the short trip) with loads of A stock in between. Thence to bridge south of Moor Park for 20s at which time I threw in the towel with the weather! Travelling on the trains was the smart move today! I did get a couple of nice pics though. The Chorleywood shot of No 12 taken throught the gap in the gate was lovely. If I had a website I'd link them....
And yes. A huge thank you to all involved in todays events and to all who keep this magnificent machine where she belongs. The original MET livery looks incredible.

Pretty horrid weather for it. Wet and cold one minute... and then a blazing bright sun the next minute. Did the first two trips – pretty comfortable and enjoyable. Livery was nice, though I was worried it might peel off in the wet. Whoever put it up did a good job (from a graphic designer's point of view – excellent choice of materials; it is a vinyl application using 3M adhesive – which you could smell in the wet). Managed to catch Sarah Siddons on her way back to Ruislip Depot. 22 minutes late due to a couple of engineering trains being allowed to proceed down the line first (she was due to pass through Ruislip at 1701). Question (as I am curious, and not as knowledgeable as others here): Why were two Class 20 locos used on this particular occasion?

Yes the day was good, weather was variable all day, but still fun. Apart from Sarah Siddons, the train really isnt authentic is it? Dont get me wrong, its lovely to travel on it, but its marketed as a Met Heritage train, its really a Met Loco at one end and thats it. Its not like the 38ts tour on the Northern in a month's time. Am VERY appreciative of the work that went into the operation of the train today, well done to all concerned.

Well I guess if LT hadn't scrapped all but 3 Dreadnoughts we would have something a little more authentic, but there's not a lot we can do now! I'm not sure if I like the 4TC with the stick on teak sides, but its better than nothing.
Great effort all. Hopefully we will be able to travel on a heritage A60 train in 5 years time!

But they wouldn't allow slam-door compartment operation in 2009 would they? (There are ex-Met Rly coaches in preservation and it would be great to see Sarah and L44/Met 1 top-and-tailing [or better still John Hampden] but it's not gonna happen, alas.)
Heritage A Stock would be good, repainted 'silver', Train Red LT fleetnames and car numbers edged black.

Just as well, otherwise we wouldn't have seen it at Ruislip Manor whilst waiting for a modern Met

Was an enjoyable day out, despite the weather. My photos from the day are here. There have been complaints on other groups that the event wasn't particularly well advertised and that the ticket price was a bit steep (especially if you opted to visit the canal festival rather than do all the trips). Hopefully the LT Museum will take some of these comments on board. It is a bit poor, for example, that the Northern Line 38TS is still shown on their website as 'Tickets on sale soon', whereas I understand they have been available to book for a while.

Wonderful to see Sarah out again. Without wanting to criticize any effort of the any staff member, it really is a shame that more authentic stock can't be gathered. There are 4 ashbury coaches out and about, 3 drednaughts, 2 T stock coaches, L44 and Sarah. I think all are running at the moment too, arent they? A concerted effort to 'bring them home' for an event needs to happen; it would be a very popular event I'm sure.
Having said that I'm suprised the interiors of the 4TC still retain their NSE upholstery. Presumably its in the pipeline to make them more Met-ish as and when time and finance permitts?
Well done to all though. A cracking display of staff passion and pride, a pity it didn't sell more tickets.

Ah yes, the Ashbury coaches, and Sarah! A proper changeover at Ricky from electric to steam would be cool, but I think a number of necessary items of signalling equipment have been decommisioned. Anyway they won't let steam run, that's how Steam On The Met ended.........

With regard to there being two class 20 locos engaged with the Sarah Siddons trip, my sources have quoted that the Class 20's are to be used to move the new S Stock from Aylesbury down to Neasden and are required well in advance for Test Crew Training and route training purposes. Also it's been said that 20227, Sir John Betjeman, is slightly lacking in power so a chance to use 20189 as well was, perhaps chosen.
