We open the month with a single part question. However a couple of bonus points are waving at you all, one for spotting something slightly out of place, and another for working out why the main location was chosen today. *Click image for a larger version*

Well there's a Fowler ploughing engine with a Tar Boiler in the background. Possibly the one belonging to the L&DTEC. Keighley & Worth Valley Railway?

The main photograph is Cyprus, well done luke and astock5000 - but why was it chosen for the 1st of May? Cyprus - stairs from westbound. [Chris M] (click for a larger version) The background is a Fowler ploughing engine, specifically 1913 Fowler BB class Ploughing Engine no. 13482. I'm impressed you got that Rincew1nd. It isn't at a preserved railway though - so where it is? (click for a larger version)

Is it that Cyprus became a British colony on 1st May 1925? You're thinking on the right lines, but that's not the event that I had in mind.

It isn't at a preserved railway though - so where it is? Behold, myself on the footplate of City of York No3# Not a preserved railway you say? Must be at some kind of museum then or similar, Beamish, Ironbridge? #Wallis & Steevens 10ton Advance Roller No7941 of 1927 if you're interested, taken August Bank holiday 2006 on its first public outing for 20years. I have the dubious pleasure of looking after it when it's raining, and no, it hasn't got a canopy yet :-@

It was indeed taken at the Blists Hill museum in Ironbridge, taken on the 30th of April 2006. The only reason I was able to say more about it than "traction engine" is because I Googled "NO797". Unfortunately trying the same logic to find out more about a lake appearing in a background photo later this month has led me to spend most of the day reading about motorway service stations for reasons I cannot remember

Gah, in my quest to locate it I Googled the engine number, searched the Traction Engine register and all sorts, but never thought of the registration number! Grr

Cyprus joined the EU on 1 May 2004. Spot on, that's exactly what we were looking for.

It was indeed taken at the Blists Hill museum in Ironbridge, taken on the 30th of April 2006. At the risk of going on about traction engines on a tube forum, my sources tell me that in March last year the engine was in bits at Statfold Barn near Tamworth.
